JOB DESCRIPTION:
The incumbent is responsible for research and development activities for Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics and will be located at the RD center in Northboro, MA. He/She will be expected to effectively lead multiple research efforts to develop innovative and patentable products processes. He/She will be expected to manage priorities, hit timelines technical targets, develop strong working relationships, and communicate effectively. The incumbent will
1.) Lead complicated innovative product development projects focused on the development of extrudable polymer compounds, extrusion coating of textile yarns, fabric design and properties optimization
2.) Industrialization of new extrusion-based products and process that meet customer technical requirements
3.) Work closely with our plant engineers in Mexico to troubleshoot and resolve production quality problems
4.) Work with transversal RD teams to identify new platforms for innovation
5.) Specification and implementation extrusion equipment
The incumbent will be responsible for working closely with the Technical Fabrics business to ensure that technical projects are strategically targeted. They will also work closely with our production facility in Mexico. The incumbent will be expected to stay abreast of new developments and innovations in the fields of functional fabrics and reinforcement textiles (non-woven mesh products), extrudable polymers and extrusion processes for textiles.

They are expected to utilize sound technical knowledge of chemistry, chemical processing, textiles and textile reinforced materials to develop innovative new products, improve product performance, reduce costs, and maximize production efficiency. He/She must be capable of leading and executing projects that may be several months or years in duration. The incumbent must

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:BACKGROUND/SKILLS
This position requires skills associated with a BS with work experience, or an M.S. in polymer sciences and 2-3 years of industrial experience in extrusion process development, development of extrudable polymers, and compounding. They must have a proven track record of innovation and successful implementation. Spanish language skills are strongly desired. Team work, communication skills, attention to detail, customer focus and follow-through are critically important to the incumbent’s success.
