Ke`aki Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Research Microbiologist. The position will be located at U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, Frederick, Maryland in the Genomics Center. The position requires U.S. Citizenship, a favorable Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) security clearance background check, and a signed confidentiality agreement.
The Genomics Center mission is to develop and establish capabilities for genomics and bioinformatics research to enable comprehensive genetic identification and characterization of pathogens that are considered a threat to the War fighter, and support multidisciplinary research being conducted at USAMRIID and other DOD laboratories for the development of medical countermeasures against BW threats.
Specific Tasks:
- Serve as a Scientist / Research Investigator within the Genomics Center.
- Perform research on microbial pathogenesis and genomic response of immune system to microbial pathogens, critical to military mission.
- Perform nucleic-acid-based assays for quantitative and qualitative detection, identification and characterization of militarily relevant viral and bacterial pathogens.
- Design, conduct and evaluate research projects to elucidate the critical determinants of pathogenesis for viruses of military importance.
- Familiar and have experience with immunological procedures and basic virology including ELISA, (enzyme-linked immunoassays), Western Blot, immunohistochemistry, plaque assays, and viral titration, virus neutralization, and preparation of virus seed stock.
- Skilled in performing anesthesia, phlebotomy, and treatment on small animals and nonhuman primates infected with BSL-3 agents.
- Develop or revise standard operating procedures and protocols as required.
- Organize and maintain laboratory records, analyze and interpret data and prepare manuscripts and presentation for publications or presentation in scientific conferences.
- Train and supervise other laboratory contractor personnel as required.
- Participate in keeping an organized, safe and professional work environment.
- Communicate to the PI or assigned supervisor(s) experimental data, laboratory issues or other work-related issues.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Position requires a Ph.D., Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Immunology or Virology.
- 7 years experience in biomedical research.
- Enrollment in the Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP) for handling select agents - he or she must maintain enrollment. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements as regulated by Army Regulation 50-1 (AR 50-1) http://www.fas.org/irp/doddir/army/ar50-1.pdf
