Retail Lending Underwriter II - Minneapolis - 005RJ Description Hours: 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM Provide an independent assessment of proposed loan applications for consumer lending real estate and non-real estate loans. Review loan applications received from TCF Bank Consumer Loan Officers. Identify areas in which loan applications do not conform to TCF policies and prepare summary and approval requests for the TCF Consumer Lending Senior Management. Prepare loan approval documentation that is presented to the TCF Consumer Lending Senior Management. Determine all non-conformity with TCF policies and procedures. Actively participate with Loan Officers in the packaging of proposed loan applications for management review, including review of real estate valuations, real estate title work, and borrower(s) income sources. Verify accuracy of information on all submitted loan documents. Ensure application information matches what is displayed in ARGO; verify property is properly tilted, calculate/verify income information, verify tax and employment information; review all other related documents. Assess applicants risk factors and decide if applicant is a good risk for loan approval. Recommend/submit approvals based on risk factors; put loans into closing. This position has approval authority up to $125K for property loans, $10K for unsecured, $25K for auto and $80K for CD secured loans. Reviews and approves loans for subordinate personnel within the department. Possess a working knowledge of appraisal practices and approaches to values. Ensure that values are in line with surrounding properties in applicants geographic area or requested loan amounts. Responsible for signing off and approving income verifications/appraisals without any supervisory review. Possess working familiarity with industry issues in areas of loan portfolio concentration (e.g. Market Home Values, Market Lending Practices). Assist in the training of newly hired staff to the department; provide training to Consumer Loan Officers regarding lending practices, procedures, and documentation requirements. Actively answers questions and gives direction regarding TCF loan policy for lenders, BLMs, and RMs. Continuously review and/or update TCF Consumer Lending Policy Manual to adhere to Senior Management policy changes. Will be assigned loan approval capabilities in the absence of Department Manager. Qualifications Four-year college degree or equivalent work experience and coursework in finance related fields. 3+ years experience in consumer or mortgage lending, underwriting, credit analysis, finance or other related field (external candidates); 2+ years working in TCF Underwriting and Approvals Department (internal candidates) Excellent analytical, conceptual, writing, and communication skills. Ability to work with and understand a variety of software applications. Ability to work closely with a wide variety of personality types. Ability to work well independently. Ability to be detail oriented while maintaining a larger picture perspective. Strong credit, risk analysis, and analytical skills. Ability to analyze and interpret credit quality information. Solid understanding of general economic theory as it relates to the lending and business environment. Preferred Four-year college degree in accounting or finance. Four years experience in consumer or mortgage lending, underwriting, credit analysis, finance.
