The Financial Institutions team within the Wholesale Risk Area is the local representative of the equivalent function located within the Global Wholesale Risk Area in Madrid.
We are currently looking to fill a high-profile role, which will require expertise in credit across Banking financial institutions.
As a Risk Manager you will be responsible for the credit quality of the Bank's FI portfolio, including ensuring sound credit practices and assessment are applied to new approvals and appropriate monitoring and review of extant counterparties is undertaken on an ongoing and regular basis.
You will need to have exceptional communication and client-facing skills as well as an ability to build strategic relationships with key stakeholders. As you will be closely liaising with Madrid Risk (particularly the Soberanos Trade Finance sub team) and other local Risk centres (e.g. Paris, New York, Hong Kong etc) on Financial Institutions and Sovereign Risk issues.

As a Risk Manager - Financial Institutions, your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification.
- Extensive Credit knowledge across Banks.
- Previous product knowledge of the range of trade finance and capital markets/trading products (including derivatives, stock lending, repo, money market instruments and bond issues), collateral management methodology and legal/documentation issues to allow the risk factors to be thoroughly identified and understood.
- Ability to work and exercise judgement to tight deadlines as necessary in a trading environment. Responding to changing business demands as required.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally across the full range of staff levels.
- Spanish language skills highly desirable, but not essential.
As a Risk Manager - Financial Institutions your main responsibilities will involve:
- Monitoring and analysis of Wholesale Risk exposure to Financial Institutions:
- Credit contact with stakeholders in the range of front office areas within SAN UK, including FIG, ALM/ALCO, Short-Term Markets (Fixed Income and Equities), Derivatives, Trade Finance etc.
- Close ongoing liaison with Madrid Risk (particularly the Soberanos Trade Finance sub team) and other local Risk centres (e.g. Paris, New York, Hong Kong etc) on Financial Institutions risk issues.
- Analysis of Credit risk aspects of Treasury and Capital Markets products, including relevant legal documentation and risk mitigation techniques.
- Recommending proposals for consideration at the relevant approval level, including the analysis of specific structured trades, frequently including an assessment of the collateral pledged.
- Attendance/presentation at relevant Committees (CIAC, ERC etc.) in relation to FI risk issues.
- Input into the analysis and overview of management information ('MI') on relevant FIs.
Location: London
Salary: £65,000 - 75,000 + car allowance and benefits
