Risk Manager, Market Risk

Edmonton, Alberta

Responsible for analytics directed at monitoring and reporting Credit and Market Risk within the ATB Client Derivatives program.

The primary focus of the Risk Manager will be to provide a sound risk management and internal control environment through Credit Market Risk Assessment, Calculation, Monitoring and Reporting.

You will find success based on your ability to:

• Assist in the development, monitoring and exposure/exception reporting of ATB policies to mitigate Credit and Market Risk.

• Assist in the Credit Risk Management Program annual review process relative to Derivative exposure limits.

• Assist in establishing Market and Credit risk and facilitating approval for new trading products.

• Assist in the development, monitoring and exception reporting of Counterparty and Customer exposure limits.

• Assist in approving new Counterparties and establishing exposure limits.

• Assist in confirmation and maintenance of Counterparty (third party) credit ratings.

• Daily Profit and Loss production and related analysis

• Month end PL reconciliation of Trading PL to the General Ledger.

• Immediately advise the Managing Director Market Risk, Front Office, Back Office and Senior Management of ATB any excesses relative to approved credit limits with respect to counterparties, which may include excess positions caused by market movements.

• Assist in development and production of an appropriate and robust stress testing environment to evaluate the effect on the Client Derivative portfolio caused by unlikely, however not improbable events that would cause a deterioration in asset values and evaluate extreme market conditions impact on the portfolios.

• Periodically conduct audits to establish confidence that trading exposures are recorded and appropriate terms and conditions are accurate.

• Assist in the development and production of periodic back testing to confirm that the exposure calculations and mark-to-market systems continue to function within expected parameters. Assist with evaluation of new valuation models and changes in methodology.

• Support ad hoc requests from the Business and assist in any projects.

As the ideal candidate you possess:

• Strong familiarity with sophisticated commodity derivative deal capture and reporting systems.

• Strong understanding of principles of market risk analytics and credit risk analytics for derivatives (position, greeks, VaR, CfaR); knowledge of credit exposure analytics (PFE, CVA) highly recommended.

• Strong understanding in modeling of commodity forward curve, volatility, correlation and other inputs into Credit Exposure calculation.

• Familiarity with commodity risk management tools such as Kiodex or similar.

• Strong understanding of implications of market risk policies and disciplines.

• Strong understanding of implications of credit risk policies and disciplines.

• Strong time management skills.

Designations/Training Requirements/Prerequisites:

• Undergraduate degree in business commerce, economics, or mathematics.

• Chartered Financial Analyst accreditation highly desirable

• Completion of Canadian Securities Course.

• Completion of derivatives related courses or designations.

• 2-3 years experience, previous exposure to commodities and/or other products (FX, interest rate).

• Previous experience in Middle Office or Risk Management, Product Control or Finance preferred.

• Knowledge of VBA, SQL and Excel preferred.
