Business Division: Credit Market Risk, UBG
Role Purpose
- The role is key to quantifying and assessing the risk profile of the Division or assigned portfolio. Achieving this may include designing and managing the development of models used to quantify and analyse risk, and assessment of key models metrics.
- This involves, but is not limited to providing expert challenge and direction on risk measurement methodologies in line with strategic and regulatory requirements.
- This role requires the application of intellectual rigour to resolve complex issues and deliver insightful solutions.
Major Activities and Responsibilities
- Manages consultation and support to Risk colleagues and business leaders on the appropriate use of routine quantitative modelling tools for assessing risk across RBS Group.
- Manages the review and analysis of methodologies and financial modelling techniques across a single business line, legal entity and/or geographic region.
- Manages the research and analysis associated with proposed changes / enhancements in methodology in response to regulatory concerns, and/or new policy development / implementation across a line of business, legal entity and/or geographic region.
- In partnership with members of the Development Operations and Business Partner role families, educates assigned business areas' employees on advanced Analytical concepts.
- Acts as a delegate subject matter expert for formalised training and education, including providing input on design and delivery of coursework delivered through theRiskAcademy.
- Scope, propose and develop new solutions to risk related problems, or alternative solutions where those presented are inadequate.
Measure of Success:
- Successful completion of projects including a challenge on methodology to ensure the outcomes are based on robust analysis and provision of reliable solutions to meet the project objectives.
- Successful management of analytical/model development projects.
- Provision of explanation of relevant quantitative analysis techniques to colleagues.
- Assessment of alternative approaches to challenge standard practices.
- Development of staff within the team.
Essential Skills and Experience Required
- Logical approach to problem solving
- Knowledge of Credit Risk
- Understanding and practical knowledge of risk analytics
- Proven Analytical ability
- Solid relevant experience
- Experience of management of an analytical project
Desirable
- Solid experience in a banking, financial markets or consulting environment
- Experience of working with a range of data sources
- Strong SAS skills
- Firm knowledge of relevant regulatory regimes and risk disciplines
- Previous experience of management of an analytical project
- Comprehensive knowledge of UBG products and associated processes
- Firm Knowledge of how competitors’ products are positioned within the marketplace and understands how this impacts on risk appetite, policy etc.
