The position:
Your primary function will be to provide assurance to Group Executive, Entity Board of Directors and RSA, that all Underwriting, Pricing, Claims and Governance strategy, policies and guidelines are adhered to, and that performance will deliver future growth and profitability targets and remain aligned with Codan Group and Entity level Risk Appetite.
This is a Nordic position and it will be based in Copenhagen or Stockholm – some travel must be expected.
Responsibilities:
You will be monitoring, assessing and challenging processes across the business to ensure insurance risk is managed and any issues of non-compliance are identified, reported and actioned to minimize regulatory impact. You will work with your Insurance Risk colleagues, Underwriting, Claims, Actuarial, Group Risk and Sales to enhance the understanding of risk appetite, develop comprehensive understanding of the risk framework and reporting requirements and support the management of portfolios.
You will use your analytical and communication skills to assess, report and advise on the management and control of insurance risk.
Some of your key tasks will include:
- Monitor, challenge and support the processes to identify, assess, document and manage insurance risks:
- Take appropriate action to address and report non-compliance or misalignment
- Provide early warning of material issues to relevant regional/local and Group stakeholders
You will also manage the regional/local relationship in order to:
- Ensure the all teams are fully informed about the regional/local business and is kept abreast of current developments
- Facilitate early identification and discussion of material risk issues and authorisation requirements
- Ensure the regional/local risk function is kept up to date with methodologies, processes, standards, initiatives and policies
- Negotiate and agree regional/local policy variations or exceptions, where appropriate, to meet local regulatory requirements and/or business needs
Building and maintaining relationships with Underwriting, Claims, Actuarial and Sales colleagues in order to ensure/support:
- Cross-community understanding of risk appetite and all appropriate Risk and Control policies and processes and methodologies
- Appropriate challenging, testing and improving of technical risk management and associated capabilities
- Smooth operating of Risk reporting and control processes and prompt resolution of issues arising
- Liaise with and support Regulatory and Operational Risk colleagues to ensure alignment of activities and address peaks in business demand
Your profile:
The ideal candidate will have experience of working in Financial or Operational management roles within a global financial organisation as well as experience of working within underwriting, claims and/or actuarial roles.
You have proven experience of identifying and managing insurance, regulatory and insurance risk and you also posses solid experience of working directly with customers and in the customer environment.
You will have an in-depth knowledge of general insurance underwriting and claims processes and best practice, including pricing.
You will also have experience of the following:
- Designing and implementing business strategy
- Defining and measuring adherence to risk appetite
- Monitoring key performance indicators
- Working within a risk management framework, including governance and compliance
- Portfolio and Client reviews
- Performance improvement techniques, for example: Technical Audit
- New product development
You are a strong communicator with the ability to influence and engage others effectively at all levels.
As a person you have got the credibility to challenge and influence behaviours across a broad stakeholder group, high capacity for understanding and managing complex issues and a clear vision of how things need to be in the longer term.
