Position Highlights

meet the requirements of an RN-III-Life Flight, which includes an EMT-P certification

BASIC FUNCTION: Position responsible for serving in a leadership role and as a clinical expert in the delivery and management of patient care and is cross-trained to competently care for patients from multiple services/specialties with more complex diagnosis.

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles. Specific age groups that are served by this position are circled.

Neonate Infant Pediatric Adolescent Adult Adult/Geriatric

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduate of a school of professional nursing.
2. Current State of Texas license to practice as Registered Professional Nurse. Baccalaureate degree preferred.
3. Current State of Texas Department of Health license or certification as a paramedic (EMT-P/LP).
4. Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC and NRP. Required to obtain within eighteen months of hire: audit ATLS, obtain CFRN.
5. Minimum four to five years experience as a registered nurse in critical care and emergency department, preferably in a Level One Trauma Center.
6. Preference to intra-system applicants.
7. Physical requirements:
-Maintains current state of physical and mental well being.
- Able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Physically fit to lift, bend, and twist.
- Able perform job responsibilities in confined areas and /or differing environments.
- Standard aircraft seat belts will fit without alterations.
- Able to function in the cabin of an aircraft without physical restrictions.
- Meets weight requirements of less than 240 pounds.
8. Demonstrates commitment to the Partners-in-Caring process and the Behavioral Expectations in all interactions and in performing all job duties. Performs duties in a manner to promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction, while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to the CQI process.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Delivers appropriate care to patients, at a competent level, according to the RN skills inventory and the age and needs of the patient/population served
2. Coordinates the planning for the delivery of patient treatment by the multidisciplinary team and administers appropriate clinical decisions in the planning and delivery of care, utilizing existing resources and staff, and setting appropriate priorities; participates in the development of clinical pathways and monitoring of performance outcomes.

3. Directs the healthcare team in attaining positive outcomes, including meeting treatment goals; develops/implements discharge and/or transfer plans; evaluates the quality of patient care and contributes to the revision of standards of care; assists manager with employee related issues such as performance management and serves as preceptor and charge nurse on the unit, as assigned.
4. Ensures safe care to patients adhering to policies, procedures, and standards of care, within budgetary specifications, including time/supply management and accuracy of practice.
5. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
6. Actively participates in Memorial Hermann Life Flight activities when asked: public relations activities, hospital multidisciplinary committees, EMS Conference, EMS monthly CE offerings, Twelve Lead Classes, Airway Training.
