To serve the needs of the health plan members and the other patients of the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Program. Under supervision is responsible for assessing, planning, directing, providing and evaluating nursing care for patients and coordinating nursing care activities with other health care disciplines. Essential Functions: - Demonstrates ability to provide holistic care to complex oncology patients and their families through the cancer continuum (e.g. diagnosis, treatment, side effects/complications, relapse, and end-of-life). - Demonstrates ability to administer complex chemo- and bio-therapeutic regiments. - Demonstrates ability to appropriately treat cancer pain that includes engagement and education of patients and their families. - Safely handles chemotherapeutic agents, waste and spills. - Promotes and utilizes complementary therapies such as relaxation, distraction, healing arts, and comfort as needed for patients and their families. (Examples include videos, music, humor, art, and healing touch.) - Coordinates patient/family needs and activities with all disciplines and Palliative Care and Hospice Programs. - Attends and participates actively in weekly Oncology Rounds; follows through with team decisions. - Performs accurate multi-system assessments, including; biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, education needs and discharge planning needs. - Develops patient teaching plan and documents on care plan or teaching plan. - Appropriately delegates patient care activities based on patient's condition and scope of practice of other health care providers. - Initiates appropriate measures in emergency situations. - Lifting and carrying: o Able to lift and carry at least 60 pounds unassisted and carry them for a distance of 50 feet. o May assist in the movement of patients and/or equipment whose weight may range from 100 to 300 pounds. - Bending: able to bend up to 60 times per shift, at both the waist and knees. - Walking: able to stand and/or walk for entire shift. Able to walk a distance of three to five miles during course of a shift. - Able to push/pull weights 100 to 300 pounds with assistance. - Standing: able to stand six to eight hours per shift.
