RN-Therapeutic Apheresis Job in Los Angeles, California US

SUMMARY

 

Conducts therapeutic apheresis and Hematopoeitic Progenitor Cell (HPC) collection processes and procedures assigned by the Company within the guidelines set forth by the Company and all applicable regulatory agencies, providing the highest quality of patient care and services to the community.

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

§         Perform patient assessment before, during and after each procedure including arrhythmia recognition, hydration state and normal/abnormal lab values.

§         Review, develop and modify treatment plan in accordance with patient’s specific age group and response or reaction to treatment.

§         Identify, and take appropriate actions to ensure patient safety in emergency situations.

§         Treat apheresis complications including citrate reaction, hypo/hypervolemia, vasovagal reaction, coagulation problems and venous access problems.

§         Perform following procedures and give rationale for their use:


o        Therapeutic Plasma Exchange

o        Cytapheresis

o        Red Blood Cell Exchange

o        Hematopoeitic Progenitor Cell (HPC) Collection

o        Immunoadsorption

o        Photopheresis

o        Therapeutic Phlebotomy

 

o        LDL Apheresis


§         Perform venipuncture and peripheral and central  venous access care, including:

o        Arterio-venous Graft/fistula

o        Subclavian and femoral central venous catheter, internal jugular

o        Demonstrate and describe proper aseptic techniques with 100% accuracy and frequency.

§         Conduct routine maintenance and quality control on all processing and ancillary equipment utilized by department; complete associated documentation.

 

Education, Experience and Licensure

 

§         One year recent adult critical care, dialysis or apheresis experience.

§         Current RN license in state of practice.

§         Current Fire Card.

§         Current BCLS/CPR certification

§         Drivers’ license

§          Work will be conducted in a hospital environment.  Temperatures are regulated by facilities management and are not within the direct control of the individual or HemaCare.  Work may be conducted in an open area with associated distractions such as noise from telephones, office and medical equipment, keyboards, and talking.

§         The work is done both sitting down and standing up, using a computer keyboard, computer pad, and gazing at a computer monitor.  Position requires the incumbent to move throughout the hospital and move equipment.

§         Must be able to drive to client locations which may include sitting in traffic for long periods of time.

§         Exposure to standard chemicals used in an office environment is expected and includes but is not limited to toner; glue and liquid paper or white out as well as exposure to chemicals and pharmaceuticals typically used in therapeutic apheresis procedures.

§         Exposure to blood borne pathogens and bio-hazardous waste on a daily basis.

§         Must be able to grasp, seize, hold and turn objects, lift and carry up to 25 pounds, push or pull equipment weighing up to 400 pounds using wheeled transport, reach at, above or below shoulder level to retrieve or utilize equipment and materials, pull, push, open and close file drawers, cabinet or office doors.

§         Must be able to tolerate moderate noise level created by general business and hospital operations, office and medical equipment.

§         Ability to accurately distinguish differences or similarities in intensity of odors or to recognize particular odors.

§         Able to monitor machines, hear audible alarm systems and take accurate readings.

§    Work locations vary from day to day and case to case.
