Resume and supporting documents (See How to Apply) DUTIES: Back to top As the Deputy to the Safety and Occupational Health Manager for the National Park Service, Northeast Region, you will be responsible for the leadership and direction of an occupational safety and health program for a geographically diverse area of up to seven states and containing over 35 units of the National Park System. Duties include: Serving as the principal advisor to the Regional Safety Manager and park superintendents on all safety and occupational health issues; Analyzing and resolving safety issues affecting numerous professions in both indoor and outdoor work settings; Evaluating region compliance with safety rules and regulations; Drafting occupational health and safety plans and programs; and Providing training to staff throughout the region on occupational safety and health programs and policies; QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Back to top In order to be qualified for this position at the GS-11 level, you must possess one of the following: A. O ne year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service, implementing operational guidelines for occupational health and safety programs; revising existing safety management programs or procedures for use in an office; ensuring an office or organization's compliance with existing safety programs policies, laws, or regulations; and delivering presentations on occupational safety and health topics. - OR - B. A PhD or three years of graduate level study leading up to such a degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or a degree in another related field that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. - OR - C. A combination of specialized experience as described in A and graduate education as described in B that, when combined, equals 100% of the total requirement. (Please note that only graduate education in excess of the first two years may be used in this calculation.) In order to be qualified for this position at the GS-12 level, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service, assisting with the development of operational guidelines for occupational health and safety programs; drafting safety management programs or procedures for use in an office; evaluating existing safety programs or policies to determine their compliance with all laws and regulations; recommending improvements to existing occupational health and safety plans for public spaces; and delivering trainings on safety or occupational health programs and policies.
