Safety Coordinator – High Voltage Construction – British Columbia, Canada
Client Information:
Our Client, one of the largest Utility Contracting Firms in the US, has hired us to locate them an experienced, detail oriented, and Safety conscious to join their team in the role of Safety Coordinator
in British Columbia as part of their overall growth strategy in the Western Region.
Position Overview:
· The Safety Coordinator is responsible for promoting Safety Teamwork with PEI Operations Teams at Project Sites and area Offices in British Columbia.
· Assists in resolving Safety Problems and perform Field Safety Evaluations.
· Provides Safety Training and promote improved Performance by providing Mentoring, Coaching and Training to Facilitators, Claims Administrators, Staff, and the Management Teams.
· Work with Field Operations to support Department Initiatives and Programs.
· Must be Results-driven, Responsible, and committed to Quality and Service
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the Development, Implementation and Monitoring of Health and Safety Systems, Programs, Standards, Procedures and Guidelines.
- Lead Safety Meetings, Audits, Hazard Assessments, Hazop Reviews and Site Inspections.
- Participate in Accident Investigations and Follow-up Activities.
- Develop and Conduct Safety Training Sessions on Safety Standards, Procedures and Guidelines.
- Review and Evaluate new/changing Provincial Regulations/Legislation and their impact.
- Perform Training Sessions and hold Toolbox Talks with Crews at Show-ups or Job Sites.
- Perform Job Site Inspections of Crews to identify Un-safe Conditions and Work Practices.
- Coordinate Inspections when New Processes, Equipment, or Substances are introduced or unrecognized Hazards are identified.
- Help with Project Safety Pre-plans and Hazard Analysis with Managers, Supervisors, and Foremen for new Projects.
- Verify that Corrective Measures are completed in a timely fashion for any Hazards identified.
- Make Recommendations to the Safety Committee, Insurance Carrier, or Consultants.
- Investigate Injuries and Illnesses to determine Cause and take Action(s) to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure Compliance with Hazards Communication Program, Emergency Action Plan, Fire Prevention Plan, Confined Space Entry Program, Trenching and Excavation Program, and other Programs required by CCOHS and the Corporate Safety, Health and Environment Department.
- Submit Weekly Status Reports specifying Projects completed during the Week.
- Ensure that First-aid Supplies and Fire Extinguishers are Maintained on Vehicles and Equipment.
- Enforce all Company Safety Rules. Work with Managers and Supervisors to apply the proper Disciplinary Procedures for those Employees who violate Safety Rules.
- Assist with Region’s Drug Testing Program assuring compliance with Transport Canada Requirements.
Qualifications:
- 2 year Degree in Safety/Occupational Health or equivalent Training with Credentials.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Designation, or working towards CRSP Designation desired.
- 3-5 years Power Transmission, Distribution, and Substation experience in a Safety Role.
- Experience in Developing and Implementing Health Safety Programs.
- Knowledge of WorkSafeBC Regulations and Safe Work Standards.
- Knowledge in SCC (Standards Council of Canada), Environment Canada, CCOSHA Standards.
- Certified Instructor in CPR, First Aid, CCOSHA Outreach Programs, etc.

- Ability to recognize Hazardous situations.
- Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills
- Clear understanding of Loss Control Principles.
- Effective Verbal and Written Communication Skills.
- Comfortable Conducting Training Sessions.
- Strong Organizational Skills.
- Detailed oriented with strong Organizational Skills.
- Team Player / Positive Attitude.
- Ability to travel 100%.
- Valid Driver’s License and Clean Driving Record.
- MS Proficient
Compensation:
Salary: 80k – 90k
