JOB SUMMARY:
The SAS Research Data Warehouse Administrator of the Research Services Data Center (RSDC) will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the Virtual Data Warehouse (VDW). The VDW is HPHCIs research data warehouse, and is sourced from HPHCs Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). The SAS Data Warehouse Administrator will function as HPHCIs VDW manager and will be responsible for ensuring that the VDW conforms to HMO Research Network specifications.
The SAS Data Warehouse Administrator will develop and maintain the optimal database solution to meet current and future business objectives. S/he will be the primary liaison with technology teams in other business units. The SAS Data Warehouse Administrator will develop a thorough understanding of the EDW and lead quality assurance testing and user acceptance testing for HPHCI.
The SAS Data Warehouse Administrator will represent HPHCI in HMO Research Network data management and development activities. S/he will work collaboratively with the VDW Oversight Committee, Operations and Technical Leads in RSDC, and support all RSDC programmer/ analysts, project managers and investigators in troubleshooting and effectively addressing their VDW-related questions. S/he will ensure efficient and effective communications.
The SAS Data Warehouse Administrator will be required to master the VDW content and to have technical expertise, interpersonal skills to negotiate solutions, and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
Essential Functions:
- Lead the development and maintenance of the Virtual Data Warehouse (VDW). Implement the optimal database solution to meet current and future business objectives. Evaluate new technologies and products. Research and propose cost effective technical solutions to address challenges.
- Function as HPHCIs VDW manager and be responsible for ensuring that the VDW conforms to HMO Research Network specifications. Represent HPHCI in HMO Research Network data management and development activities.
- Function as HPHCIs business unit expert on the HPHC Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). Participate on data stewardship committees, lead data warehouse testing for business unit and integration of new data to ensure research data requirements. Participate in development of test strategies and plans, execute test procedures, and report results.
- Create and maintain up-to-date technical and operational documentation.
- Develop working knowledge of and facility in accessing data from all available data sources including: clinical information systems, automated medical records, hospital claims, outpatient claims, pharmacy, enrollment, provider, employer, and benefits data.
- Perform data management, programming and analysis activities for research studies.
- Use good judgment and practice in working with highly confidential information. Follow all applicable privacy and confidentiality procedures in daily work.
- Bachelors degree in a related field (i.e. computer programming, information systems, health sciences)
- 8+ years of practical experience programming and/or managing data in a health care and/or data warehousing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced SAS programming skills, including proficiency in Base SAS, SAS MACROS SAS/ACCESS to relational databases, SAS/CONNECT, SAS/ETS, SAS/GRAPH, SAS/STAT.
- A demonstrated knowledge of relational database management systems including TERADATA, ORACLE and SQL SERVER. Expertise in ETL processes, performance tuning, query optimization and data migration. Management of large databases (measured in terabytes).
- Ability to work with business units to understand their challenges and develop appropriate technical solutions.
- Experience retrieving, manipulating and analyzing data on UNIX or Linux operating systems.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve problems in a timely manner. Strong leadership and planning skills. Ability to effectively multitask in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Organizational Relationships/Scope:
- Works directly with internal and external constituents such as: RSDC Leads, HPHCI executives, HMO Research Network partners, and HPHCs business community, and will frequently represent HPHCI to external constituents.
- Reports to the Manager of Administration Systems.
