Acentia is seeking an SCCM Architect and Team Lead to join our team.
The primary responsibility of the Systems Management Server (SMS) / System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) Architect and Team Lead is to evaluate the current SMS / SCCM infrastructure design, site utilization and process management and provide recommendations for improvement and increased efficiency. In addition the position will identify and evaluate emerging SMS / SCCM related technologies to promote an efficient utilization of the tools.
The SMS / SCCM / OSD Architect will be responsible for:
- Oversee the development of processes and procedures for day to day operations of SMS / SCCM to include requirements gathering, test procedures, quality control, and deployment
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert and consultant to the client. Identify opportunities to optimize and / or change tools, processes, and procedures to improve the effectiveness and reduce risk to the environment. These will presented to senior management in position papers and oral presentations
- Team lead for small team of engineers responsible for SCCM / SMS and imaging using OSD
- Review the current health and reliability of the SMS / SCCM Infrastructure and provide recommendations for improvement in position papers and oral presentations to technical team and senior management
- Responsible for documenting the existing infrastructure and mentoring a team of engineers to create similar documentation
- Will evaluate new technologies and upgrades that can be utilized within the current environment
- Review the statuses of software deployments and patch management to determine if there is a global problem
- Develop and test commercial-off-the-shelf software update packages, for deployment with SMS / SCCM
- Develop, test, and deploy desktop image. Currently Windows XP and Windows 7, and MacIntosh 10.6.8
- Define, document and implement quality assurance program for SCCM / OSD infrastructure, desktop images, software packages, and patch management
- Develop, test, and implement maintenance program for SCCM / OSD infrastructure
- Maintain current knowledge of desktop operating systems and trends to provide recommendations
- Provide recommendations to ensure compliance with latest government security requirements for desktop operating systems such as NIST and FISMA
- Review imaging practices and provide recommendations for enhancement
- Recommendations will cover technology, resources, and processes
- Direct engineers responsible for Operating System Deployment (OSD)
- Develop, implement and maintain configuration management (CM) best practices for SMS / SCCM / OSD. Identify, implement, and maintain tools needed for CM
- Train and provide guidance to SMS / SCCM Administrators
Other duties may include:
- Provides expertise in troubleshooting SMS / SCCM infrastructure, packaging and patching issues, as needed
- Present any recommended changes/improvements in maintaining the SMS / SCCM infrastructure
- Identify single points of failure, if any, in the proposed changes/improvements
- Meet with the client to discuss design decisions and tradeoffs, resulting in recommended, agreed upon changes/improvements
- Prepare documentation on design concepts and implementation designs
- Prepares a transition plan for SMS / SCCM upgrades to the SMS / SCCM Administrators
- Create scripts to automating design changes or upgrades
- Design and implement the web reporting system
- Prepares a Disaster Recovery Strategy for SMS / SCCM
- Provides training for SMS / SCCM Administrators, as needed
- Participate in business development solutions as needed
- Create custom web reports with greater than 3 criteria
- Perform disaster recovery in a lab or in production if necessary
- Perform advanced SQL tasks
- Implement new SCCM features
- Recover a failed SCCM site
- Migrate an SCCM site to another site
- Perform database maintenance and optimizations
Minimum Experience:
10 years experience in an Engineering and government environment
7 Years experience doing the following:
- Perform evaluations, design, implementation and upgrades of a multi-site SMS / SCCM infrastructure
- The ability to troubleshoot all aspects of SMS and SCCM and OSD
- Experienced with the design and implementation of the web reporting system that is used for tracking software deployments problems with the SMS / SCCM infrastructure
- 2 years of experience and knowledge of Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy Object (GPO) Administration
- Subject matter expert of Microsoft’s Operating System Deployment tool, and its integration with SCCM 2007
- Expert with Windows 7 security configuration
- Experiences in leveraging scripting automate administrative tasks
- Experience with quality assurance processing to assure SMS / SCCM deployments are successfully installed
- Extensive knowledge and experience in GPO OU design/architecture, automating notifications and actions to alert/correct problems with the infrastructure
- Familiarity with new technologies and how they could be leveraged to benefit the department, new business strategies and corporate initiatives focused on desktop imaging and software deployment
- Experience in designing, implementing and administrating a multi-site SCCM Infrastructure
- Has in depth technical knowledge of all components of SCCM to include OS, database, network topology, and hardware
- One year of experience with System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) and Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) desirable
- 3 years scripting experience preferably with VBS command line scripting or PowerShell
- 3 years of experience supporting SQL databases preferably with SMS or SCCM
- Familiarity with networking, SQL, IIS
- Experience in mentoring staff
- Experience in implementing CMMI practices for SMS/SCCM/OSD preferred
Educations/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related program (Preferred)
- Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS): System Center Configuration Manager 2007 or MCSE (Preferred)
