Scientific Analyst - Greenhouse

Kelly Services is in need of a Scientific Analyst / Biology Assistant to join the Greenhouse group at a top-tier agricultural company, located in the Indianapolis area. Scientific Analyst - Greenhouse Crop Protection RD is seeking an enthusiastic greenhouse biology assistant to perform pesticide testing in major crops and insects, including but not limited to corn, soybean, cotton, cabbage, aphids, whiteflies, diamondback moth, and fall armyworm. The successful candidate will network with immediate supervisor to contribute to research conducted in greenhouse and laboratory settings. This individual will use new and existing technologies and methodologies to implement protocols and increase efficiency, consistency, and quality of the research project efforts. The ideal candidate will have general understanding of entomology and agriculture, possess skills necessary to communicate in written and oral forms, technical skills to work in greenhouse and laboratory settings, keen attention to safety, ability to take instruction and work as a team member to ensure effective research conduct and quality data generation. Typical expectations for this role will include: · Enjoy working with a variety of plants and insects in a lab/greenhouse setting. · Willing to work in other departments if necessary (weed and disease management). · Excellent research documentation skills · Gain familiarity with laboratory reagents and equipment maintenance · Enthusiastically engage in both laboratory and greenhouse activities work and data collection and analyses. · Look for opportunities to optimize research protocols while under supervision · Becoming proficient in various research and data management tools and entering information in established databases. · Specific duties will include maintaining high quality plant materials through watering, plant thinning, and growth monitoring in laboratory and greenhouse environments. · Observing insect growth and preparing them for testing. Assist in operation of track spray equipment during application of any commercial and experimental pesticide formulations to crops and insects. · Observing and rating results. · Assist in field work that will be conducted off site. Additional tasks will include: preparing labels, planting and transplanting various crops, ordering test material through an electronic database, maintaining chemical inventory and laboratory notebooks. Qualifications · Willing to train the right candidate with some college, Bachelors or Associates degree in, Agriculture, Biology or related field is highly desirable. · Experience in using laboratory equipment is desirable. Selected candidate will have a proven strong work ethic Education should reflect an AS degree or 1-3 of solid work experience in a Science discipline, however could be a fresh BS grad that meets the points above.
