Job Description Background: IAP World Services, Inc. has an excellent opportunity for a full-time Scientific Project Liaison to perform contract work at the USGS Great Lakes Science Center, Ann Arbor, MI. IAP World Services is the on-site technical services contractor and supports GLSC by hiring and managing qualified individuals to support long and near-term research projects. Position Description: Research at the GLSC spans a range of studies including fish populations and communities, aquatic habitats, terrestrial ecology, near shore and coastal communities, and the biological processes that occur in this complex ecosystem of the Great Lakes. The primary objective of this project is to conduct intensified monitoring of selected beaches and associated coastal waters to provide state-of-the-art models and data to predict and prevent beach closings and develop solutions to prevent beach fouling by algae and reduce botulism outbreaks. Sample tasks include: Project Liaison and participate in field sampling on Great Lakes beaches Coordinate field crews to complete data collection Communicate safety protocols for field and laboratory work Collect biological and physical samples on Great Lakes beaches Schedule and assist in laboratory processing of samples Develop and maintain databases of field and laboratory data Qualifications: A M.S. degree and a combination of education and experience in combined disciplines such as conservation biology, GIS, fisheries ecology, field sampling, bird and fish identification, and natural resources management. The position also requires knowledge of database management, report writing, and preparing and delivering oral presentations about research results.
