Job Description - Provide technical and Health Safety oversight in the field of environmental construction projects. - Primary focus will be on executing field work related to pipeline abandonment activities, soil and groundwater sampling tasks, and OM of remedial systems. - The selected candidate will work under the supervision and direction of senior project managers/mentors for a minimum period 6 months. - At the end of 6 months, the successful candidate will be expected to operate with a degree of autonomy and self direction, maintaining an aggressive project schedule and meeting tight deadlines. - The Staff Scientist will have a high mechanical aptitude, an understanding of construction activities, remedial system operations, and solid troubleshooting skills. - The Staff Scientist will have a strong understanding of the principals and interactions of flow, pressure, and temperature. - The Staff Scientist will have a strong understanding of HS principals, procedures, and requirements, with the ability to develop HS plans, Job Hazard Analysis, and conduct tailgate safety meetings. - The Staff Scientist will be expected to undertake all aspects of field reporting, including health and safety documentation, data gathering, system operations. - The Staff Scientist will be expected to have a general understanding of environmental remediation and construction industry regulatory framework and HS requirements. - The Staff Scientist will coordinate work and seek input as appropriate from his/her supervisor and the Project Manager, and the appropriate technical resources to make certain that the work performed is consistent with the project specification. - The Staff Scientist will be a self starter and project driver, anticipating and initiating field and reporting activities without prompting from the Project Manager. - It is desirable (but not required) that the Staff Scientist have completed the Hazardous Waste Operation (HAZWOPER) training. - Bachelor's degree or higher required in engineering, geology, environmental science, or any technical field with emphasis on health and safety. - Experience requirements: 6+ months in environmental, petrochemical, construction, or a technical field. - Compensation is based on level of experience. - Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel. - Must be detailed oriented and capable of observing/communicating project issues to the project/program manager. - Project work will be located throughout the state of California and will require 50% or more travel.
