Job Description AECOM Alexandria is looking for an archaeologist/Principal Investigator. The selected candidate will be able to direct field investigations/report preparation for project of all sizes. Applicants should possess demonstrated experience in archaeological survey, testing, and excavation and possess the ability to apply technical, legal and cultural knowledge and planning principles to complex archaeological projects. A strong working knowledge of the methods, theories, laws and ethics of archaeology; archaeological resource management principles, methods, and techniques as well as the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing are also essential. To be considered, candidates must meet the Secretary of Interior Professional Qualifications Standards for archaeology, with 5-10 years experience in cultural resources management. A graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field is required. Expertise in mid-Atlantic prehistory is preferred. Project management (cost, schedule, and technical performance) experience in a consulting environment is strongly preferred. Candidates should have a good working knowledge of NEPA and Section 106. Previous consultation experience with National Capital Area SHPOs (Maryland, Virginia, and/or DC) and familiarity with local state guidelines and regulations will be a significant plus. Candidates must be computer literate (MS Word, Excel) and be comfortable using GIS/GPS equipment in the field. Candidates must also be prepared for occasional field efforts that require time away from home.
