Today, we are proud to offer a temporary position for a Scientific Analyst position to work in a Molecular Biology lab for a Fortune 500 company in Indianapolis, IN. This position will perform contract research and contribute to the identification and characterization of transgenic events and characterization of novel bacterial strains. Primary responsibilities will include the extraction of high quality bacterial and genomic DNA for use in downstream gene detection and/or expression applications including PCR, real-time PCR, quantitative PCR, restriction digests and gel electrophoresis. Additional responsibilities include plant tissue sampling and media preparation. This position will be required to also perform route molecular biology including growth of bacterial cultures, plasmid and plant genomic DNA isolation, restriction enzyme digests and gel electrophoresis. Knowledge of qPCR is desirable. Some plant tissue sampling in the greenhouse will be required. Experience in preparing bacterial growth media and routine molecular biology buffers and reagents is required. Experience with MS word and Excel is desirable. Associates degree in biotechnology or related field with some experience is required. A BS degree in biology, biotechnology, plant sciences or chemistry with some experience in a molecular biology lab is also acceptable. Required Experience: The successful candidate will have experience in the application of molecular biology lab methods including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, and good aseptic technique. Education = Associates degree with two to 5 years lab experience post-degree, or a BS degree with 2 years lab experience post degree . Experience in the use and development of automated methods is highly desirable. Top 3 most important success factors to candidate selection: Candidate must have some knowledge of nucleic acid extractions, PCR and DNA technique experience. Strong and proven experience in teamwork environments that can be shared verbally in an interview with confidence and great communication skills Proven work ethic from work experience reliability and proven high level of attention to detail. This is a 4 - 6 month assignment working through Kelly Services . All candidates should be capable of passing a 7 year criminal background investigation and drug screen for consideration.
