SECTION EDITOR
The Dallas Morning News is seeking a Plano editor for its weekly neighborsgo community news operation. This position is responsible for using online media and reader contributions to plan, aggregate, create and publish editorial content for one of 11 editions of neighborsgo, the weekly community newspaper published by The Dallas Morning News and online at neighborsgo.com. The Section Editor reports to the Assistant Managing Editor/News and works closely with colleagues at neighborsgo and The Dallas Morning News.Under the leadership and guidance of the neighborsgo Assistant Managing Editor/News and the Senior Editor, the Section Editor uses material posted on neighborsgo.com to produce a weekly print edition that's timely and relevant to the communities it serves. This individual will be responsible for the production of a weekly Plano-centric newspaper, with an emphasis on reporting, aggregating and editing neighborhood-level news and contributions from readers on neighborsgo.com and other online sources. Reports and writes one weekly story and one editor's note that are relevant to the readers of her/his edition. Other requirements:
Strong passion for community news required, as is a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, PR or related field Digital-first mindset. Good working knowledge of basic computer programs, a deep understanding of social-media sites and a proven ability to blog, tweet and repurpose online content for print use. 1 to 2 years of experience producing and/or running a print/online news operation. Must possess excellent communication, planning and time-management skills. Extensive knowledge of newspaper writing style and familiarity with AP Style is preferred. Ideal candidate will be detail-minded, enjoy working with the public and be comfortable in accepting and delegating tasks. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong copy editing ability and photography skills.
