Goldman Sachs’ Strats business unit is a world leader in developing quantitative and technological techniques to solve complex business problems. Working side by side with the firm’s trading, sales, banking and investment management professionals, members of the business unit use their mathematical and scientific training to create financial products, advise clients on transactions, and measure risk.

Roles within Securities Strats

Securities Strats play important roles in several areas. Some Strats sit on trading desks, creating cutting-edge derivative pricing models and developing empirical models to provide insight into market behavior. Others work directly with the firm’s salespeople, analyzing exposures, structuring transactions, and explaining quantitative concepts to clients. Sitting between these two groups, Core Strats design and develop complex parallel computing architectures, electronic trading tools, and advanced algorithms.

Data Strategies

Data Strategies is a small team of dedicated people who target the data needs and requirements of Goldman Sachs' front office. The team delivers technology-driven solutions for loading, managing, and analyzing data sourced from a large number of vendors, both inside and outside of the firm. The depth and breadth of the data covered spans the full update frequency spectrum: from high-speed real-time electronic exchange originated quote by quote data, through daily trading summaries and corporate actions, to periodic economic statistical data. The group's focus is global in nature and covers all areas of the firm’s trading activity, including Interest Rate Products, Currencies, Commodities, Credit, Mortgages, Equities and Equity Derivatives. One of the key ways the team adds value to the business is by developing and supporting a variety of high performance in house data analysis suites.

Members of the group require a strong foundation in Computer Science and Problem Solving along with a good comprehension of financial markets, their securities and trading characteristics. Communication skills are also pivotal, as there are frequent interactions between strategists, traders, salespeople and other divisions within the firm. Data strategists distinguish themselves by comprehending the intricacies of financial data on one side while understanding the requirements from the business on the other, and delivering solid and innovative technical solutions that achieve the desired results in a timely manner.

The successful candidate for this vacancy is anticipated to be focused on working with solutions that process high frequency, high speed market data feeds and associated deployments of database storage and interrogation infrastructure.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelors degree or higher with distinctions in related disciplines (Computer Science, Maths, Physics, Economics…) an advantage

• Proven programming ability in high-level programming languages. C/C++ preferred, but not essential

• 2+ years of core contributory experience with technical solutions involving very high data integrity and stability achievement rates

• Knowledge experience with High Performance computing, database development/design.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work in a high-pressure environment, and to deliver results extremely quickly

• Ability to solve problems and to explain the ideas that underlie them
