Position Description:
The Morgan Stanley Valuation Review Group (VRG) provides an independent valuation opinion across the entire bandwidth of financial instruments within the firm's sales and trading inventory, ranging from vanilla products to the most complex structured and derivative transactions. The team leverages its profound quantitative skill set and intimate product expertise to act as a guardian and approver of valuation methodology. The group's key clients are senior trading management as well as the CFO organization of the firm.

The Securitized Products Group (SPG) VRG team is responsible for the independent valuation of all business lines within SPG and all products including cash products, derivatives, swaps, etc. The group performs the review of the portfolio valuation, which involves approval of valuation methodologies, testing adherence to such methodologies, comparison of Morgan Stanley marks to external marks/benchmarks, identification and resolution of potential pricing discrepancies - and provides a valuation summary assessment to senior management. The group is also involved in the continuous advancement and enhancements of the valuation control infrastructure with a view towards global standardization. The group liaises heavily with Traders, Desk Strategists and Global Product Controllers.

Skills Required:
The candidate will be primarily responsible for the execution, management, coordination and delivery of a strong commercial real estate control environment and the delivery of key tactical and strategic initiatives to support mark review infrastructure automation and process improvement as well as certified model development and roll out. Specific responsibilities will include:

• Utilize proprietary models, Bloomberg, TREPP and Intex to derive market based prices for commercial mortgage backed bonds, derivatives, and cash/synthetic CRE CDOs to ensure compliance with FAS 157, fair value accounting policy and valuation controls.
• Work directly with traders and finance management to resolve pricing discrepancies, substantiate significant mark ups/downs, and report mark review results to senior management.
• Candidate will be responsible for coordination and execution of reports in conjunction with audit and regulatory requests covering commercial real estate assets.
• Project management of valuation methodology enhancements working closely with the trading desk, model review, market risk, and desk strategists.
• Candidate must be able to work effectively with team members in NY, London, and Budapest, as well as demonstrate strong independent ownership of valuations.

Skills Required:
• Bachelors in Finance, Math, Engineering, Statistics, Law, Accounting, or a related quantitative discipline is required
• A working knowledge of securitized products and commercial real estate is preferred
• Work effectively under pressure and when confronted with tight deadlines
• Excellent communication skills and effective in managing relationships
• Control-minded and detail oriented
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel/VBA, Access and PowerPoint
• Ability and willingness to adapt to new challenges in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities
