Responsibilities

Security Technician
This group is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of security systems throughout the world. As a division we assess, design, procure, install, inspect and maintain technology-based security systems and equipment such as access control, physical security intrusion detection and closed circuit TV. This position is part of a team with-in Security Systems Division that is mainly responsible for the physical installation, maintenance, and implementation of security systems domestically and though out the world. The person that fills this position must be able to perform as part of the team of co-workers to design and install smaller systems, procure and ship equipment to the sites, track funding, request infrastructure support and communicate effectively with customers. They must be able to interact with many levels of employees and properly track and report on the progress of projects. Experience in security systems installation and/or computer configuration, networking, project management is required. The incumbent will be asked to perform basic installations that include the physical requirements as stated below.

The successful candidate should have a basic understanding or ability to gain knowledge of security policies, procedures and directives of NSA, National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual, Director of Central Intelligence Directive 6/9 (now ICD 705), and other associated requirements documents. The candidate must possess technical skills that can be used for the installation and maintenance of security systems. They must also have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to analyze problems, make sound decisions and provide focused solutions. The successful candidate should be customer oriented and have the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with all levels of civilian and military personnel.

The successful candidate will, at a minimum, be expected to perform at the Entry/Developmental Performance level as described below:
Work at this level involves acquiring competencies needed to perform successfully at the entry/developmental level through the appropriate formal training, actual on-the-job experience, or both. Employees at this level learn and apply fundamental skills and concepts using established procedures and standard practices to work problems of limited scope based on detailed instructions from the supervisor or instructor.

Duties and responsibilities both domestically and overseas:
Assist in ensuring required equipment is designed, ordered, coordinated, installed and approved.
Assist in preparing documentation to support the security system installation.
Assist in maintaining as built documentation for each project or site assigned.
Serve as part of a team that assists remote customers with repair and maintenance using communications skills through e-mails or phone calls.
Serve as part of a team to develop budgetary estimates for future installations of security systems for mainly small scale projects (typically one floor, or one 10Ksqft building).
Assist in developing specific estimates for projects and in tracking the spend plan during implementation.
Serve as part of a team that balances the operational needs of assigned projects with security regulations, to seek proper resolution to ensure operational success.
Travel to overseas locations to include occasional travel to hostile areas.

Physical requirement:
Ability to distinguish basic colors; Climbing, use of legs and arms; crawling (hours); Kneeling (hours); Moderate carrying, 15-45 pounds; operation of motor vehicle; Pulling hand over hand (hours); Pushing (hours); Reaching above shoulder, operating lifts to more than 50 feet above ground.

A person in this position must have the ability to pass the minimal standards of fitness for deployment to a hostile area to perform TDY support. Limiting 'Medical conditions' as used in this context may include dental, oral, psychological and/or emotional conditions that may affect the person's ability to safely deploy to remote areas where conditions are considered primitive or harsh. Restrictions include any condition that limits a person's ability to wear protective equipment, obtain required immunizations, requires frequent clinical visits or tests, and conditions that require durable medical equipment or evaluation/treatment by medical specialists not readily available in theater. Qualifications

The incumbent must have experience in some form of technical discipline. The ideal candidate may also have physical security installation, engineering, project management, briefing and documentation installation experiences. Proficiency with standard office technologies and equipment is required.

Entry is with a high school diploma and 5 years of experience, or an Associate's degree and 4 years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience.
Degree must be in a security technology systems related field (e.g., Engineering, ATFP).
Experience in specific security technology systems (e.g., closed circuit TV, security alarms, TSCM).
Technical leadership experience is preferred.

Skills:
Skill necessary for the installation of equipment to include operating hand tools, installing conduit, low voltage circuits components, and pulling wiring and fiber. Also, the termination and basic testing of fiber and copper cable is helpful. Network and computer programming is also helpful.

Global Skills:
Basic computer use; written/oral communications; customer service; planning; teaming; organizational representation; data/information management; coordination of activities.
Must be able to work with a wide variety of personnel that range from highly skilled technical experts to basic customers from the agency population.

Knowledge:
General principles of communications; (active listening, effective oral communication, tact, and diplomacy); ability to learn NSA policies and guidelines; time and attendance regulations, transportation; travel authorization procedures; record keeping; and business office products and supplies. This person must have a basic understanding of Ohm's law and electrical circuits.

Pay, Benefits, Work Schedule

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Salary range: $42,209 - $97,333
