Semi-Trailer Mechanic Job in Racine 53126, Wisconsin US

Job Purpose:
Maintains transport trailer serviceability by conducting inspections; making repairs.

Duties:
* Keeps transport trailers available for use by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests using scanners, electronic test equipment, and on-board diagnostic computers, completing preventive maintenance, such as, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, component replacement.

* Maintains transport trailer condition by reviewing shop orders; listening to operator complaints; repairing failures; removing, replacing, assembling, and installing parts and components involving sheet metal, frames, suspension, electrical, hydraulic, and braking systems, heating and refrigeration units axles, hubs, tires, wheels, and coupling units.

* Complies with federal and state requirements by testing according to standards; making corrections and adjustments.

* Maintains transport trailer appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.

* Maintains transport trailer records by recording service and repairs.

* Keeps shop equipment operating by calibrating electrical test equipment; following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

* Contains costs by conserving use of equipment and supplies.

* Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.

* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.

* Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Skills/Qualifications:
Mechanical Inspection Tools, Tooling, Technical Understanding, Job Knowledge, Verbal Communication, Documentation Skills, Attention to Detail, Thoroughness, Dependability, Technical Zeal, Productivity, Valid Class A CDL, Gas and Arc Welding Experience, Able to work with minimal supervision, Able to work with computers and input computerized repair order codes, Must have own tools, Knowledge of DOT regulations.
