Commercial Markets is actively searching for a Senior Accountant to join the Reinsurance team. This position independently participates in the development, processing and/or critical analysis of financial reporting in accordance with accounting principles as well as performs financial analysis utilizing intermediate technical accounting knowledge, provides guidance and/or solutions on accounting issues, and oversees maintenance and controls of financial systems and continuously improves operational processes. Additionally, the Senior Accountant independently provides accounting and finance services in support of internal and external customers, researches exceptions/variances and identifies and works to help resolve issues as they arise, provides technical expertise to internal business units, markets, and external customers and will present findings/recommendations to Management.
Responsibilities:
- Independently prepares increasingly complex standard and ad hoc reports (monthly, quarterly and annual book close; which includes account reconciliations, control checks, manual journal entries, preparation of financial statements) utilizing a broad knowledge of accounting principles; presents findings/recommendations to Management
- Independently supports moderately complex accounting and financial analysis
- Prepares reports efficiently and effectively, utilizing technical accounting knowledge and effective data management skills
- Ensures appropriate use of historical information and current trends
- Identifies, recommends and executes resolutions to issues as they arise
- Responsible for following enterprise risk management and compliance procedures
- Follows risk management and quality compliance processes to include quality control compliance (i.e. OFAC, attestation)
- Follows safeguards to protect company assets and ensure compliance with Corporate and Company procedures
- Leads projects of low to moderate scope and complexity; communicates project opportunities and constraints to Supervisor while monitoring project status
- May also actively participate in cross-functional projects of moderate to complex scope
- Identifies, develops, and maintains efficient, cost effective, processes, controls and data management; understands how departments interact
- May review work, serve as a technical resource, provide training, and/or provide guidance to junior staff (Interns/Co-ops, Associate Accountants, Accountants and/or FIFAs)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (Finance or Accounting preferred) or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 3 years of financial-related experience is preferred
- Solid understanding of financial analysis knowledge/skills is required
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and decision-making abilities
- Ability to work with management and key stakeholders in SBU/Corporate Departments
