Senior Application Developer LH Pricing

Swiss Re is implementing a common pricing tool (CPT), based on the MoSes actuarial modelling software, covering multiple regions and product lines. CPT has been successfully introduced in one region for limited product lines and is scheduled to be deployed to other regions in 2012. Expansion to further product lines and regions are planned.
The tool is maintained and developed by a core team within the central pricing function, assisted by technical/business experts from around the globe. The pricing tool is aligned with the MoSes valuation model and the team is therefore in close collaboration with the MoSes development team in Risk Management.
The application developer role is key to both the further development of the model and the maintenance of the existing implementation. The role requires a software developer with significant object-oriented experience, preferably in VB.NET. A wide variety of technologies are currently in use in the project (see Key Skills)- experience with any of these would be beneficial. The role and responsibilities demand an individual with high level technical (programming) skills as well as excellent communication skills. The person needs to be a good team player and must be able to perform effectively in a highly virtual project team. The role requires good understanding of software development cycle from business analysis to integration testing. The person should have good understanding of unit and integration testing in addition to the programming skills.

The opportunity

To propose and implement technical solutions that are flexible, maintainable, expandable and easy-to use
To identify and resolve technical issues, including those found in the 'production' implementation of the system
To develop new functionality in accordance with the business specifications and carry out unit and integration testing.
To update and/or produce technical documentation
To perform ad-hoc data-gathering/comparison investigations
To provide management support:
To keep objectives firmly in focus and work successfully to agreed timescales
To assist with planning by providing accurate estimates for proposed features
To adapt plans according to changing requirements and business circumstances

About you

Required:

Significant object-oriented development experience (C++, Java, VB.NET or similar)
Excellent analytical skills (e.g. able to quickly absorb details of feature requests and translate them into technical specifications)
Ability to produce good quality (ie. no significant errors found by the testing team)
Good communicator who is able to work effectively within a virtual team
Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision

Beneficial:

Experience of development for parallel computing (eg. DataSynapse Grid)
MoSes experience (development or modelling)
FoxPro SQL experience
Actuarial background
Experience of Life Health pricing or valuation reporting
Understanding of all aspects of the systems development lifecycle
Understanding of XML
