Job Description

We are looking for a senior application engineer to work in a team with IT specialists and business analysts that design and develop solutions for global IT projects. The role is focused at building systems for the Finance Division to generate interim and year end closings and financial reporting.
Analyzing, designing and implementing high-end applications on the mainframe with interfaces to data warehouse and various other systems will fall within your responsibility as well as providing support for ongoing operations. You will work closely with business experts on the whole chain from deriving technical solutions out of requirements to providing, testing and deploying these solutions.
You enjoy solving challenging problems and seeing a project through from start to finish. In addition to constantly developing knowledge of IT methods and tools, you bring in a dedicated interest in the reinsurance and financial business.
You will cooperate transparently and pro-actively with the project lead, team members and internal clients, promoting close teamwork within the project and the department.
In the medium term, you should be in a position to assume some project responsibility.
Your role will require the following skills and experience:

* Analysis, design, implementation and testing of applications
* Maintenance and support of productive applications
* Planning and organisation of subprojects
* Introduction of new technological methods into large productive applications

Requirements

* Tertiary level IT qualification and several years' experience in system development / programming or a university degree in computer science, mathematics or technical foundation with professional experience
* Experience in all of the following areas
* Java (WAS xD, J2EE, Spring)
* Strong knowhow in relational databases (DB2 preferred)
* Experience in batch programming (Mainframe preferred)
* COBOL (experience preferred, at least basic understanding and willingness to learn)
* A high degree of independence and quality awareness as well as target-oriented working methods
* Dedication to deliver technical solutions which focus on business requirements and system stability
* Approach to problems with curiosity and open-mindedness
* Innovative, showing a high degree of own initiative
* Ability to grasp new concepts quickly, see the big picture and apply ideas to specific situations
* Team-player, willingness to contribute actively to the overall team spirit
* Open and pro-active way of communication
* Ability to express him-/herself effectively in one-on-one conversations and small groups
* Mature self-confident; ability to face clients, business partners and senior colleagues
* Ability to readily adapt to different ways of doing things

* Open to work with legacy systems and receptive to combining new ideas with existing methods
* Strong command of both German and English language verbal and written essential
