Position Summary / Essential Functions

Sands Capital Management is seeking a motivated Senior Associate to focus on both public equity as well as venture capital/private equity activities. The focus of public equity investing will be life sciences while the venture efforts will include the life sciences and extend into other industries, including technology. This individual will support and assist our experienced team of investment professionals to help monitor existing investments and conduct research on new investment ideas for our U.S. large cap growth, global growth, and venture capital efforts. The primary areas of research for public equity investments include innovative companies in the biotechnology, medical devices, specialty pharmaceuticals, life science tools, and healthcare services sectors, on a global basis. This position will be responsible for gathering and analyzing clinical and financial data, building financial models, preparing presentations and research for the investment team, and updating internal reports. As part of the research process, this position will have the opportunity to meet with executive management from leading healthcare companies, interview clinicians and other industry experts, attend industry conferences, and make visits to facilities of portfolio companies. Venture capital responsibilities include deal sourcing, due diligence, term sheet negotiation, board engagements, financial modeling, and operational activities. Someone who excels in his/her role will have increased input into the investment decision making process and will likely take on greater research responsibilities over time. 

Necessary Skills and Qualifications

• B.S. or B.A. degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Science, or other relevant major.

• 2+ years of experience working in the investment research industry. Experience in venture capital preferable.

• A genuine and demonstrable interest in investment research and the life sciences industry.

• Strong academic performance – please note GPA on resume.

• Exceptional work ethic and an ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner without direct supervision. 

• Eagerness to learn and assume multiple responsibilities related to both investing and business operations. Strong initiative to source compelling investment opportunities.

• Outstanding analytical and strategic aptitude.

• CFA charter-holder or CFA candidate preferred, but not required.
