Hays Healthcare are currently working with an Acute NHS Trust in the South East region of the UK (approximately an hour from London by train) that is looking to recruit a Senior Clinical Night Fellow in General Surgery.
You will be expected to cover the surgical unit at Middle Grade (Registrar) level at night. You will be supported by an FY1 and either an FY2 or a CT Trainee and will answer to the on-call Consultant. You will cover General Surgery, Vascular and Urology and in turn will be covered by the respective Consultants in those specialties. You must respond promptly to calls from AE and the wards (medical Surgical) to give advice and/or see and manage the patients.
You would also be expected to see urgent and emergency referrals from other disciplines/wards within the hospital. You must confer with the Consultant on call and keep a record of such patients in the admission diary so that the patients can be appropriately followed up.
As a Senior Clinical Night Fellow- you will keep an accurate and meticulous record in patient's case notes and will supervise junior medical staff to do so. All entries in the case notes should be signed (with time, date and contact number). In addition, you will provide clinical supervision and support to the junior medical staff.
In addition to the 1:3 weeks of nights, you will provide on average 3 sessions (3 days) per week of clinical service. One of these sessions may be used to pursue an interest, gain experience or engage in continuous professional development. The timing of the day-session is negotiable to fit in your educational needs and the Trust's service requirements.
There will be a salary banding supplement (in addition to the basic salary) of up to 50% of the basic salary.
You must have (or be eligible for) full registration and license to practice with the General Medical Council (GMC) and must have a minimum of 3 years clinical experience. You must also have a good command of English in order to communicate fluently with colleagues and patients alike. You must also be eligible to work in the UK.
