Senior Commercial Property Accountant

We are seeking an energetic, self-motivated property accountant to join a team with one of our clients. Our client, located in downtown Vancouver is a leading property management firm.

We are looking for an experienced, detailed-oriented, and adaptable Senior Property Accountant who will work closely with Property Managers

The position's main focus will be primarily on on-boarding new properties and clients in the BC region. This will require maintaining a small portfolio and assisting in transitions to property accounting group and providing analytical support to managers to aid in their decisions making process.

Responsibilities

Some of the responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure new property is set up in accordance with client expectations.

  • Prepare budgets and recovery analysis (in Yardi or excel) to be used on an on-going basis.

  • Preparation of monthly year-end journal entries, adjustments and accruals.

  • Provide on-going review of new leases for all financial aspects of lease set ups and preparation of rental advice notices.

  • Preparation of monthly and year-end consolidated statements in accordance with GAAP.

  • Provide analysis of revenue variances

  • Review A/R on a monthly/bi-monthly basis and work with commercial accounts receivable to reconcile larger tenant accounts.

  • Review and approve A/P batches for portfolio to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations in a timely manner in as prescribed by Trust Accounting Guidelines set out by RECBC.

  • Preparation of all subsidiary financial reports (i.e. amortization schedules, progress draws etc.).

  • Prepare corporate month end revenue accruals.

  • Prepare/review project leasing fees invoices.

  • Assist in developing and documenting and training on new initiatives in Yardi.

  • Provide assistance to Controller Accounting Managers when necessary.

    Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and Real Estate Trust Accounting required.

  • Completion of a recognized accounting program (CGA, CMA).

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in Commercial Property Accounting environment. Retail experience preferred.

  • Experienced in working with property management specific accounting software packages (Yardi experience an asset but not mandatory).

  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service at all levels of the organization and with external partners.

  • Possess strong organizational, time management and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines without compromising accuracy, excellent product quality and attention to detail.

    Compensation:

    Our client is offering a starting salary of $60,000 to $65,000 based on the candidate's experience. Our client offers a bonus incentive as well and 3 weeks of vacation to start.
