SENIOR COMPLIANCE MANAGER recruitment
The job holder has compliance responsibilities specifically for the FSA regulated subsidiaries of the Company in order to ensure that each firm establishes and maintains effective and adequate Systems and Controls to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and legal requirements and standards and adheres to market practice where appropriate. The role incumbent is also responsible for maintaining an open and co-operative relationship with the FSA and other regulatory bodies. The primary purpose of the role is to provide Compliance oversight of and day to day advice on regulatory policy and practice.
Core Responsibilities:
- Advise and guide business areas appropriately to ensure compliance with regulatory policy and practice.
- Participation in operational business projects by providing compliance guidance and leading compliance related work streams.
- Participating in management meetings as required.
- Preparing and submitting relevant reports, notifications and returns to the FSA and other relevant bodies, and to senior management, all ongoing regular and ad hoc reporting to the FSA and other appropriate bodies, including submission of relevant notifications and returns.
- Advising on and monitoring on an ongoing basis all compliance issues relating to products to be launched, managed and / or distributed by the companies as required.
- Maintaining, and keeping up to date knowledge and understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements applicable to the companies.
- Maintaining appropriate records as required by the relevant regulations and departmental procedures e.g. breaches register, and financial promotions records.
- Evaluate, recommend and provide training to staff on the legal and regulatory requirements applicable to the companies including conducting induction training to new staff, as well as refresher and update training to existing staff, as required.
- Understand in detail the products and operational aspects of the companies Identify areas of potential risk and take steps to control and mitigate such risks.
- To contribute towards the Group’s commitment towards TCF.
- To deal with Data Protection issues raised by the business and through the oversight of Subject access requests.
- Reviewing and signing off financial promotions and regulated communications.
- To oversee the production and despatch of regulatory reports and returns, including the verification of regulatory fees payable to the FSA.
- Daily monitoring of investment trading activities to ensure that they comply with the limits, terms and conditions of the relevant account for which they are undertaken, as well as all applicable rules and regulations.
- Monitoring of all regulated activities such as, errors, breaches and complaints notified by the firm’s Outsourced partner to ensure that they comply with applicable regulatory and internal requirements.
- Conducting due diligence reviews on new clients, brokers, and other counter-parties, as well as regular on-going review and monitoring of existing accounts and contracts.
- Ensuring effective systems and controls for countering the risk that the firm might be used to further financial crime including money laundering.
- Responsibilities include receiving, reviewing and handling internal suspicious activity reports.
- Monitoring of personal account trading for company staff, as well as other internal policies and procedures.
- Provide independent challenge to the business view of the Compliance framework.
- Responsible for regular reporting to senior management on compliance matters and for making recommendations to senior management on how any issues arising should be managed.
- Responsible to promote compliance awareness amongst staff and to identify weaknesses and recommend procedures to improve compliance, risk management and controls.
- Responsible for reporting in accordance with the governance framework, any actual operational risk events or “near misses” that occur.
- Assisting the Head of Compliance to develop and maintain effective relationships with external regulators and other bodies, and liaising with and handling any enquiries from external bodies and authorities e.g. FSA in an open and co-operative way.

- First rate communication skills, it is essential that the job holder can communicate effectively on paper and in presentations, making the complex simple.
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
- A commercial focus is required.
- High levels of personal integrity and sensitivity in dealing with confidential matters are required.
Core Requirements:
- Preferably educated to University standard.
- A recognised industry or Compliance qualification preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of FSA legislation, rules and guidelines with the ability to apply that knowledge on a commercial basis whilst maintaining compliance.
- Proven track record from asset management, fund houses, and/or securities background and/or retail investment product knowledge.
- Strong industry knowledge.
- First hand experience in liaising and dealing with regulators.
- Experience of operating at Management Committee level within a regulated business.
