* Assist on all AMI compliance matters (particularly the activities of the sales and marketing teams).
* Contribute to the design, development and execution of a risk based compliance monitoring approach across the business activities of AMI.
* Contribute to implementation of the compliance risk assessment and monitoring activity for the activities of sales and marketing.
* Take lead on ensuring that the Company Approved Persons and TC regime/records are maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements.
* Responsible for oversight of the sales and distribution activities of AMI including the approval of financial promotions.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that the asset management and distribution activities undertaken by BNY Mellon Asset Management International, and especially the European branch operations, are in compliance with FSA and other relevant regulations.
- Ensure that BNY Mellon Asset Management International is, and remains, compliant with relevant regulations around the registration, skills and competence of its employees
- Implement (and revise if necessary) the existing compliance risk assessment and monitoring/oversight program to cover all areas of the BNY Mellon Asset Management International business and particularly the activities of the sales and marketing teams.
- Implement the periodic compliance monitoring of the a cross section of the activities of BNY Mellon Asset Management International, including leading the scoping and reporting of Compliance reviews.
- Keep the Head of Compliance informed at all times of all relevant compliance issues.
- Provide compliance training to the business as required.
- Engage in project/product development work within the business and provide compliance input
- Attend and produce papers for the relevant Senior Management Committees.
- Alternate for Head of Compliance as required.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory and industry developments.
Generic Management Responsibilities

Financial
- Manage any delegated budget in a manner that will best serve the line of business’ best interests and provide the Finance Department with monthly tracking and projection information.
Compliance
- Be aware of current regulatory and legal obligations of the function managed.
- Report any suspected breaches to the Compliance or Legal departments, as appropriate, immediately on discovery.
Risk Management
- Monitor, document and report business risks and internal controls of the function managed, alerting Senior Management immediately of any significant changes.
Business Continuity
- Maintain and test a current and effective continuity plan to ensure an appropriate response to any disruption to systems, information services, communications and office facilities.
Staff
- Provide clear direction and leadership to teams managed.
- Set professional example to staff.
- Supports and encourage staff development, objective setting and appraisal.
- Ensure adequate succession plans are in place for the functions managed.
Technical Skills, Knowledge, Systems Knowledge (and associated skill level)
- Significant regulatory compliance experience ideally obtained in asset management industry
- Technical knowledge of the FSA rules applicable to the business
- Proven management skills and ability to lead multi-jurisdictional teams
- Proven ability to work as an effective partner with the business while retaining objectivity, independence of thought and decision-making.
- Proven experience in investment manager and institutional business compliance
- Familiarity with the UK regulatory approach.
- Some experience of collective investment scheme compliance ideally both UCITS and non-UCITS CIS
- Some experience of oversight of external suppliers
- Good knowledge of the FSA COLL, COBS and TC Sourcebooks (the dealing and managing provisions in particular where the COBS is concerned)
- Good interpersonal and communication (oral and written, including report writing) skills
- Attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines
- Team player
- Sound knowledge of MS Office; Word and Excel
- Additional language skills; Spanish and Italian preferable.
