Description Global Engineering and Manufacturing Technology has the responsibility to invent, design, and deliver product and process technologies to make Goodyear's Business Strategies achievable. This department engineers and integrates new technologies to support new products and increased manufacturing capability. It also provides direct and timely support to plant production, engineering, maintenance and energy conservation. ***The level (E03 - E06) and title (Engineer / Technical Specialist) of this position will vary based on the selected individual's qualifications and background.*** Requirements Knowledge of tire plant floor processes desired. Working knowledge of CAD software - AutoCAD preferred. Working knowledge of any of the following technologies desired: Machine vision systems Bar-coding technology RFID technology Networking, including wireless technology Working knowledge of any of the following computer systems areas desired: Windows and/or Linux operating systems Scripting languages - VB, JavaScript, shell scripting (bash) Web design Willingness to travel (15-25%) both domestically and internationally and work occasional off-hours. Experience in a manufacturing environment. Ability to interface with and manage outside consultants/contractors hired to supplement the team's resources. Ability to interact with customers from a broad range of computer and control experience and skill levels in a friendly, open-minded manner. Experience leading and participating in a cross-functional support team environment, sharing knowledge and experiences with other team members in support of team responsibilities. Good communications skills. Experience with PC PLC hardware, I/O, sensors and machine controls. Working knowledge of databases (Oracle preferred) and database stored procedures (Oracle PL/SQL preferred). Working knowledge of formal programming, i.e. Visual Basic, C/C++, .NET, Java, Web, etc. Working knowledge of PLC programming. Minimum education - BS in electrical engineering or related technical field, computer engineering or equivalent work experience in computer-based or PLC-based systems technology (three years minimum). Bachelor's Degree Minimum six year's experience Breadth of technical knowledge Strong communication and organizational skills Tasks Design, develop, implement, and document machine control systems using Allen Bradley products. This includes all electrical schematics, bill of materials, HMI interfaces, PLC programming, and machine documentation and manuals. Take ownership for the development of existing machine control programs as well as any on-going support and product enhancements. Continually research for tools and ways to optimize the equipment process and then integrate those tools into the product. Work with plants on troubleshooting equipment issues. Responsibilities and expected deliverables include multiple functions relating to the development of systems to collect data from and monitor plant floor manufacturing processes to support Goodyear's worldwide manufacturing operations. These responsibilities require the engineer to analyze a situation, develop a design specification that addresses the requirements, design and implement the solution, and document the application for ongoing support. The engineer will be designing computer-based and PLC-based systems including required I/O and sensors, programming the systems using PLC programming, Visual Basic, C, Web and database programming, developing machine and user interfaces, developing end-user reports, implementing the systems in the plants and providing required support as needed. Plant trips will be required to coordinate the installation and startup of systems or system upgrades and the training of plant associates.
