SENIOR CONSULTANT - AMBULATORY MANAGEMENT AND PERFORMANCE CONSULTING GROUP

General Overview As part of the MGPO Practice Improvement Division, the Ambulatory Management and Performance Consulting Group (AMP Consulting Group) provides consulting and analytic support to the outpatient care practices of the Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts General Physician Organization. The AMP Consulting Group is responsible for assisting outpatient practices improve operational, administrative, and business outcomes such as patient flow, appointment access, referral management, productivity, patient experience, and financial metrics. Reporting to the Director of the AMP Consulting Group, the incumbent will be responsible for client relationships, supervision of consulting teams, timely development of consulting deliverables and implementation (as required by clients). This role requires proven consulting and/or practice operations experience, proven track record of leadership roles, strong project management and organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills, as well as a superb analytic skill set. Consultants must collaborate with physician, nursing, and other clinical and administrative leaders within practices and across the institution and function with a high degree of autonomy. Responsibilities 1. Financial and Operational Analysis ? Provide the following analytic and planning evaluations for outpatient practices: i. Analysis of operational data to evaluate performance and identify opportunities ii.Assessment of the financial performance of existing programs and services iii. Evaluation of how changes may impact the organization both financially and operationally 2. Capacity Modeling and Facilities Planning Support ? Develop analytic and tracking tools to support various clinical utilization management efforts (radiology, clinical labs, pharmacy, technology, supplies, etc.) for supported departments ? Model the impact of various growth, service mix, or operational changes on facility needs and capacity ? Assess clinical space requirements based on quantitative method ? Facilitate interactions with external parties 3. Clinical and Operational Benchmarking, and Utilization Management support ? Integrate clinical, financial, and operational benchmarking data into analyses, departmental goals, and associated improvement activities 4. New Program Assessment ? Develop business plans for new programs and support the development of strategic plans for either new or existing departments, centers, etc. Both include assessing the current market. Calculating the ROI, identifying any existing strengths that can be leveraged or weaknesses that need to be overcome as well as learning from other like programs 5. Project Management ? Provides project management and support on engagements. This may include, but is not limited to, project plan development, team structure formulation, analysis, deliverable development, deliverable review, stakeholder communications, and oversight of engagement logistics. ? Utilize standardized approaches and tools for project management and team facilitation. ? Manage internal project teams and ensure that all deliverables are completed on time and of high quality. 6. Communication Activities ? Prepare concise, creative, professional summaries of analyses and plans for outpatient services ? Effectively present findings to all levels of staff, targeting the presentation towards the knowledge level and needs of the audience ? Provide input to the team and senior clinical and administrative leadership on additional analyses and key next steps ? Develop summary communication materials for executive level and board presentations, as requested ? Keep current regarding trends and developments in the health care field, particularly as they pertain to strategic planning, analytic and decision support tools, financial trends, evolving technologies and programs, etc. Skills/Abilities/Competencies ? Demonstrated ability to effectively write, oversee, and manage a large scale project. ? Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively at all levels of a complex organization. ? Understands the ?big picture? and applies that knowledge to daily work ? Detailed understanding or financial systems and processes. ? Strong technical knowledge of budgeting and financial analysis. ? Comprehensive understanding of healthcare industry. ? Strong understanding of market analysis and planning processes. ? Excellent ability to work with senior organizational leadership and with staff across complex multi-entity organization. ? Project management and team facilitation experience and skills preferred. ? Client focused and a team player. Qualifications ? Required: Master?s degree in related field (e.g. MBA, MSE, MHA, MPH); prior consulting and/or hospital operations management experience; excellent analytical skills; project management skills; interpersonal and facilitation skills; ability to lead and work within a team as well as to work independently ? Preferred: Industrial Engineering and/or formal Process Improvement experience working in a hospital and/or academic medical center
