Job description

Responsible for the execution of all change projects for the supported business function; with the application of a standard methodology, reporting and governance for all change projects, Oversees projects and/or initiatives. Operates independently. Has in-depth knowledge of business unit/ function.

 

Knowledge / Skills

Demonstrates strong knowledge of the business function and Northern’s product offering including the functions process, policies and systems. Strong experience in change management principals and methodologies, including project management approaches, tools and phases of lifecycles.

Requires strong planning, conceptual consulting and communication (both oral and written) skills; including analytical ability, strong judgment and project management skills. Must have strong leadership, negotiation and conflict management skills.

 

Essential skills required

• Derivatives project management experience is a pre-requisite

• Ability to work under time and client pressure

• Adaptable to regular change

• Excellent attention to detail

• Excellent communication skills; written and verbal

Preferred (but not essential) skills required

• Knowledge of Summit / MTM / DTCC / Markitwire / Misys CMS market utilities

• Experience of both the sell-side and buy-side communities

• Understanding of custodian / operations outsourcing and fund accounting business

 

Major duties

• Responsible for the management of projects or work streams of a larger project of a high level of complexity or risk and may be cross functional in nature. Activities include scope requirements management, schedule development, project planning, budget management, stakeholder management and quality assurance

• Develop/maintains existing plans in MS/Project, identifying key milestones, target dates for each task and   dependencies.  Track issues and risks for each project/workstream.  Proactively track to milestones and target dates, ensuring that management is up-to-date on status and issues.  Manage project tasks and project members within GTT (timekeeping system).  Monitors spend to forecast as to agreed CME budget and report variance through the project governance structure

• Maintain project communication and status reporting internally and externally (if necessary)

• Ensure the use of project methodologies, lifecycles and best practices and apply lessons learned from previous projects

• Escalate issues appropriately by understanding the most effective path towards resolution and the difference between project issues and management issues

• Plan for and manage aspects of project quality

• Prepare project methodology documentation for assigned projects

• Project Reporting/Status updates as required

• Data quality – SharePoint/EPIC status updates succinctly delineate project status, all fields are completed with correct BRAGG status and reporting is completed by deadline

• Develop/execute an effective communication plan for implementation. Communicate project objectives and success criteria to all project team members and stakeholders

• Create project documentation in compliance with the IT Gov. frameworks including BPLC, IPLC, POLC, SDLC - specifically Scope and Project Management Plans. Be able to present and explain requirements by and to all necessary parties

• Participate in, govern, oversee or obtain all project required documents from work plans, through final sign-off documents in accordance to lifecycle methodologies

• Project plan is a thorough and effective roadmap through the project lifecycle

• Form, support and communicate direction on project deliverables and project direction

• Manage stakeholders, project team relationships and conflict resolution

• Communicate progress, escalated items and governance status to the appropriate parties at required project intervals

• Chair project’s steering meetings

• Provide project management oversight and delivery of project according to agreed upon time, budget and scope

• Be the project leader and facilitate conflict resolution among project stakeholders

• Ensure management is informed of progress or issues associated with the project and escalate appropriate if necessary

 

Experience required

• Requires a college or university degree and/or relevant proven work experience, and strong leadership that provides knowledge and skills to the functional business

• Demonstrates strong experience in change initiatives, covering such areas as operations, IT and product development; with a track record of accomplishment in large projects and initiatives
