Position Profile:
As a Senior Consultant, Risk Control, your role will be to consult with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities and engineers on risk control matters. This position involves the methodical identification, evaluation, and mitigation of various risk factors (fire, natural hazard, liability, etc.) to reduce an organization's potential to loss, and improve the overall cost of risk. You will also be accountable for the following:
Distinctive Client Value:
- Conducting facility risk control surveys;
- Developing risk control management programs for prevention and improving premises or operations;
- Developing client loss estimates (MFL/PML) on site specific and portfolio basis to assist with insurance program designs;
- Carrying out new facility risk control project reviews and providing related advice;
- Conducting hazard identification and risk assessments at client sites ;
- Conducting incident investigations of client losses;
- Developing and delivering hazard awareness and loss prevention training ;
- Preparing insurance underwriting information reports and plot plans;
- Evaluating and responding to insurance company recommendations; and
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of 5 - 7 years of progressive related experience. Special consideration will be given to experience in the power generation, upper, mid and downstream oil and gas industries;
- Good understanding of Risk Control and its relationship with managing risk;
- Working knowledge of the key codes, standards and best practices related to property and equipment breakdown Risk Control including NFC, NFPA, NBC, ABSA, API, ASME and FM Data Sheets;
- Full understanding of fire protection concepts including fire prevention programs and fire suppression methods. Proficiency in assessing adequacy and reliability as well as testing of automatic sprinkler protection, fire protection water supplies; reservoirs, tanks, fire pumps, water distribution systems, piping, hydrants, valves, etc.;
- Good understanding of special hazards such as flammable liquids, combustible dusts, high piled storage, etc.;
- General understanding of natural hazard risk assessment (Flood, Wind, Hail, Quake);
- Good understanding of risk assessment and consequence analysis methodologies and techniques;
- General knowledge of basic insurance, including property, equipment machinery, premises liability, operations liability and products liability;
- Understanding of Workplace Health Safety concerns, W.H.M.I.S., Machine Guarding, LOTO, working at height, etc;
- Competency in conducting Risk Control site surveys, proficiency in producing underwriting, risk control reports and loss estimates;
- Basic understanding of Business Continuity planning, Crisis Management protocols and Loss Investigation proceedings;
- Strong analysis, problem solving and decision making capabilities;.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a key member a team and independently with minimum supervision;
- Client relationship focused;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills;
- Strong organization skills and the ability to prioritize under pressure of competing deadlines;
- Must have strong computer skills and be proficient with the Microsoft Office Package;
- Willingness to travel extensively, mostly within North America, but occasionally abroad.
- Must be eligible to gain access into the US to participate in industry functions and/or to attend business meetings with clients.
Education and Professional Development:
- Must hold a tertiary engineering degree (Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electric, Industrial or Petroleum engineering;
- Holds or is currently working towards the P.Eng. designation;
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development with a willingness to obtain Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) or Certified Risk Management (CRM) designations.
