Provides expert legal advice and legal services in employee benefits to senior Human Resources management and other internal clients, including drafting and reviewing employee benefit plans and related documentation.
- Advises on legal and regulatory risks and issues related to qualified retirement plans, supplemental retirement plans, and health and welfare plans.
- Provides related solutions and strategies to minimize corporate exposure.
- Drafts plan documents, amendments and other related documentation.
- Reviews materials for regional benefit committee meetings and oversees committee processes.
- Advises on self corrections, voluntary corrections filings, and plan qualification issues
- Resolves vendor issues and reviews vendor contracts.
- Advises on benefit plan issues arising in transactions and reviews related documents.
- Advises on plan administration matters such as QDROs, participant claims, loans and required notices to participants, including reviewing and updating related documents.
- Assists with and coordinate benefit plan matters that arise in non-US jurisdictions.
- Completes special projects as requested.
- Focus of job on providing specialist legal advice, writing and research. Resolves most complex issues rather then referring them to manager.
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Minimum 10 years work experience specifically in employee benefits law.
- License to practice law in work location.
- Deep expertise in qualified retirement plans, supplemental retirement plans and health and welfare plans, including ERISA, tax and other applicable rules
- Demonstrated customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated project management skills; deadline oriented.
- Ability to multi-task while maintaining great attention to detail.
- Excellent research skills.
- Computer proficient including experience with office products.
- Ability to work independently and think strategically.
- Ability to interact with multiple levels in an organization.
