Senior Database Manager – Application Infrastructure recruitment
Technology Infrastructure Services is responsible for maintaining the Operating Environment that includes all infrastructure components and service restoration.
This function is divided into five core disciplines:
Service Management - responsible for managing external (3rd Party) customers, Service Desk, Desktop Services, Incident Problem Management, Change Control and Production Acceptance, Enterprise Monitoring and Scheduling, Bridge Operations, and MQ / WMB support and Database Operations.
Delivery Support - responsible for delivering change, this includes projects, small works and other non BAU tasks.
Operational Control Management – responsible for protecting the Operating Environment, includes Security Management, and Business Continuity.
Operating Environment Management – responsible for maintaining and fault resolution on the core Platforms, Network Services and Data Centre management.
Architecture and Engineering – for Technology Infrastructure Services platforms and associated technical roadmaps.
The successful candidate will be the Product Service Owner for the Technology Infrastructure Services Database function. This role will be accountable for all Database related engineering on a day to day (BAU) Support and Project Deliveries for all of our clients business units.
The successful candidate will need to possess experience in managing a global Database function and be able to demonstrate exceptional team building and people management skills. This role requires the candidate to have an in-depth, Subject Matter Expert technical understanding of database products and platforms, and able to mentor and guide the team to achieve success. This role will involve working closely with Technology teams on a global basis.
In order to provide support and services to a geographically diverse customer base the successful candidate will be required to work either UK or India business hours. Additional support outside these hours may also be required periodically as workload needs demand. You will be accountable for the following:
- Product Services Owner for database technologies
- Setting the team vision, reviewing the database roadmap strategy, setting objectives, reviewing service offerings, plan, communicate, track and deliver all tasks on time within budgets
- Functional management of the Database Engineering, Projects BAU streams
- Be the line manager of senior Database resources
- Communicate team strategy, set and manage customer expectations; gather feedback regularly from different customers to improve on the services being provided
- Conduct cost analysis and comparative costs of technologies to reduce / minimise operating expenditure
- Understand, monitor and proactively manage team and infrastructure capacity in order to utilise resources efficiently
- Assist in defining metrics, monitoring and reports related to Database domain
- Provide support and guidance to Engineering, Project Support Managers
- Drive Database strategic direction and roadmaps in conjunction with EA Delivery teams
You will need to be able to demonstrate experience and skills in the following:
- Relevant senior level management experience leading a Database Infrastructure team with a global remit
- Lead from the front, understand technical and people issues, provide solutions and escalate to the TIS Senior Management team wherever required
- Experience of managing a large Database team in excess of 20 people
- Technical exposure to Oracle SQL Server environments with a proven track record of service delivery
- Strong Project People Management skills (planning, team creation, budgeting; estimating; project monitoring staffing)
- Extensive knowledge of related infrastructure domains. E.g. Operating Systems, Storage platforms and Application environments
- Ability to adopt an external focus and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the industry and competition.
- Ability to lead strategic thinking and to communicate effectively, both formally informally
- Strong record of academic achievement
- Experience of working to strict deadlines on a regular basis
