Description:
- The role is a hands-on senior developer based in Hong Kong working with the Equity Derivatives Technology Exotics Pre-Trade group. The group is responsible for UBS Investment Bank’s client-facing web application and FIX gateway for quoting and execution.
- The role is to act as Asia-Pacific technical and delivery lead for the above-mentioned applications. He or she will also play a key collaborative role in defining the architecture of the wider platform.
- A possible future growth area will become the Asia-Pacific lead for the Exotics Pre-Trade group, and so the candidate should show ambition and potential to take on more managerial responsibility.
- The successful candidate is a strong technologist who either has a deep knowledge of the Equity Derivatives Structured Products business or demonstrates a keen interest in acquiring such knowledge.
- He/she will work directly with internal stakeholders and Services group and external clients.
- The role requires excellent programming, OO design and refactoring skills primarily in Java.
- The candidate loves to learn about and use new technologies. He/she looks for ways to apply technology appropriately to solve problems and to improve the design of existing systems.
- The candidate has great analytical skills. He/she understands problems quickly, provides intelligent feedback and suggests follow-up actions.
- The development team deploys and supports its own applications in production. The role therefore requires a small amount of support work, shared among the team. The successful candidate will proactively propose changes to applications and business processes that continually reduce the support burden.
- The candidate understands the need for strong processes and controls around source code and deployment.
Requirements:
- MSc or BSc Computer Science
- Fluency in English
- Business qualifications (e.g. CFA, FSA) or other financial training desirable but not essential
- Technical qualifications (e.g. SCJD, MCPD) desirable but not essential
- Minimum 10 years relevant experience from investment banking industry
- The candidate must be very strong at either Java or C# or both. He/she is probably experienced in using several other languages too, perhaps including SQL, JavaScript and Perl.
- The candidate also has great interpersonal skills, being able to work well in a global team environment with other technologists as well as technical and non-technical users.
- The candidate is able to communicate his/her ideas fluently, both verbally and in writing, to technical and non-technical audiences, understanding the differing needs of each.
- The candidate is experienced in (or else must show a keen interest in) progressive development methodologies including Agile and Test-Driven Development.
- The candidate preferably has experience of developing all the various tiers of an enterprise application: services, web front-end, GUI, relational database, distributed cache.
- Occasional Travel within APAC and to head office is required
