Responsibilities Part time Senior Distinguished Scientist to supoort the Ultra-staging of Early Colon Cancer Program (UECC) at Henry M Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine. UECC conducts scientific research in support of a number of currently funded Colon Cancer projects. Responsibilities: 1. Evaluates and pursues funding opportunities 2. Prepare proposal grants for submission to obtain further research funding 3. Design, conducts and provides project management for scientific experiments 4. ollects scientific data in accordance with work plan and reviews it for validity and accuracy 5. Trains staff on procedures associated with the project or program requirements 6. Participates in group scientific and managerial meetings as required 7. Prepares and submits interim and final reports 8. Attends scientific and project advisory meetings, and participates as appropriate 9. Prepares scientific communications including electronic presentations, posters and publishable papers 10. Records and maintains complete scientific procedures/data in a clear, organized format from all work performed. 11. Plans appropriately to ensure supplies, reagents, materials and equipment are available to meet project deadlines 12. Prepares, reviews and updates operating procedures as required 13. nteract closely with different internal or external groups to facilitate experimental processes 14. Adhering to all applicable operating procedures and safety guidelines. 15. Communicates/coordinates with other team members. 16. Compiles and enters all data related into relevant tracking mechanisms. 17. Immediately communicates any problem/issue related with management. 18. Maintains and updates inventory and notebooks in accordance with relevant guidelines. 19. Maintains a laboratory notebook for scientific procedures and data in a clear and organized format for all work performed. 20. Reads and edits relevant standard operating procedures and writes new SOPs as needed. 21. Prepares and reviews training worksheets, and trains new personnel. 22. Will participate in laboratory cleanliness, decontamination/contamination prevention, quality assurance and organization activities, and participate in training or other educational activities 23. Completes other projects as needed. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience with cutting edge molecular biology and histology techniques; Ability to work independently as well as in a team; Ability to multitask and meet deadlines; Excellent record keeping skills and a superb attention to detail; Strong oral and written communication skills. Minimum Education/Training Requirements: PhD in Microbiology or related scientific discipline Minimum Experience: 4 to 6 years related research experience; Prior track record of receiving research funds from government and/or industry.
