Job Purpose
Evaluates training needs and develops eLearning solutions through the application and utilization of various adult learning principles and eLearning technology tools. Develops, conducts and implements training need assessments, program evaluations, instructional design methodologies and templates, and eLearning programs. Creates advanced simulations to effectively train both technical and behavioral skills. Collaborates with management and other stakeholders in the development, establishment and execution of a global eLearning strategy.
Essential Job Duties Responsibilities
- Identifies strategies for management of content, and provides leadership and guidance surrounding new technologies and standards; provides guidance to training staff and stakeholders regarding the development and use of the technologies and standards.
- Establishes best practices surrounding content development, materials, media and testing, including creating design templates and identifying opportunities to streamline the production process.
- Identifies learning-related issues, such as content sequencing, flow of information and relevancy of media, and quickly develops and implements effective solutions.
- Collaborates with management to build global eLearning strategy appropriate for Jackson.
- Appraises capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses of new and existing eLearning design and development tools, and recommends changes and upgrades to Jackson's eLearning toolbox.
- Effectively executes the following phases of instructional design methodology: needs analysis, task analysis, learning objective generation, course outlining, storyboard development, creation of participant materials and effective assessments, and determination of the components, learning strategies, and structure for each course, collaborating with management and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in all phases of the cycle.
- Reviews deliverables for completeness, compliance with standards, consistency with design documents, and confirmation that learning objectives were met, based on results of audience and needs analysis results; identifies continuous improvement areas and enhancements and modifies process steps as needed; creates and executes functionality testing plans for courses deployed via the LMS.
- Reviews and revises content based on feedback from team members, SMEs, management and other stakeholders, resolving conflict and making sound changes, resulting in the achievement of program goals.
Knowledge, Skills Abilities
- Strong knowledge and application of adult learning theory and instructional design principles with a strong focus on eLearning/virtual design and training methodologies, utilizing the latest interactive learning technologies.
- Strong working knowledge of various authoring and eLearning development tools; may include Toolbook, Articulate, Captivate, Flash, LiveMeeting, PowerPoint, Adobe Connect, PhotoShop, Lectora, Camtasia, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Premiere.
- Strong working knowledge of recording and editing audio and video using eLearning development tools.
- Strong working knowledge, experience and aptitude for developing web-based training using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Action Script, and/or other appropriate programming languages and tools.
- Working knowledge of WebEx, Fugent, and/or Adobe Connect, and the design of asynchronous and synchronous learning events.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of SCORM or AICC principles and experience with LMSs (SumTotal knowledge a plus).
- Proven ability to design effective eLearning training programs and assess their impact on employee performance.
- Self-motivated and able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task and work effectively on simultaneous projects under tight and changing priorities, scopes and deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality and on-time completion.
- Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills required.
Education and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in instructional design, curriculum design and eLearning, with at least 2-3 years experience specifically in the design of eLearning courseware.
- Experience working in a corporate environment, designing training systems, procedures and programs desired.
- An eLearning portfolio demonstrating a proven ability to make compelling and cohesive courseware.
- Experience in building eLearning strategies to support corporate initiatives.
