Our client, a leading provider of custom and standard AC/DC and DC/DC power supply solutions is looking for a Senior Embedded Engineering Technologist to join their team of technical professionals.  This is a full-time permanent position located in Markham, Ontario.  Your primary responsibility will be to assist in the development, integration and testing of embedded software solutions (for power supply products).  Key responsibilities include:

1.      Perform embedded hardware/firmware design verification and validation testing on power supply products and document results.

2.      Troubleshoot and conduct root cause failure analysis on embedded hardware/firmware designs using analytical techniques, determining if cause is embedded hardware/firmware related.

3.      Provide leadership in complex design verification efforts.

4.      Support embedded design engineers with various hardware/software development related tasks from project launch to manufacturing.

5.      Perform manual (non-automated) testing using discrete test equipment as well as support automated test and 3rd party test platforms for evaluating embedded control systems.

6.      Set up, debug and monitor standard and specialized test equipment to verify and analyze embedded system performance.

7.      Work cross functionally with other engineering groups throughout the development process.

8.      Ensure designs conform to and are documented in accordance with corporate engineering and ISO9001 procedures.

Qualifications:

1.      3 year Electronics Engineering Technology Diploma, CET preferred or Undergraduate Electrical Engineer.

2.      6+ years experience in design verification testing (to the component level) and troubleshooting of electronic circuits (using non-automated or automated test equipment), preferably with power conversion products.

3.      5+ years experience in the development/design of embedded platforms including 8 or 16-bit microcontrollers, SoC or DSP based designs.

4.      Strong knowledge of general purpose microcontrollers/DSP configurations and functionality including programming, emulation and debugging tools.

5.      Strong knowledge of electronic components, their characteristics and specifications.

6.      Knowledge of analog/mixed signal and signal path circuitry as well as familiarity with associated hardware blocks

7.      Strong understanding of electronic measurement instruments and techniques.

8.      Strong hands-on skills in bread-boarding and mechanical assembly/modification.

9.      Familiarity with environmental test chambers (i.e. thermal, humidity, vibration, HALT, etc.).

10.   Experience with C based programming.

11.   Familiarity with implementing serial communications (i.e. I2C, UART, SMBus, SPI) on embedded systems.

12.   Experience in the product development cycle including product qualification requirements.

13.   Knowledge of embedded design as it applies to power supply functionality (i.e. power management and/or power control) is an asset.

14.   Experience with Mathcad, Matlab or Labview are assets.

15.   Experience with volume manufacturing requirements (i.e. DFM/testability) is an asset.
