Rio Tinto Minerals (RTM), part of the Rio Tinto group, has an immediate opening for a Senior Engineer, Process to be based on site at our production plant in Boron, California.
Context:
The position of Senior Process Engineer is part of the Joshua Tree Project team. The Senior Process Engineer will be responsible for pre-feasibility design work of process expansions for the Boron Operation. This work includes identifying water requirements for various expansion scenarios, analysis of best options to expand plant capacity based on cost/benefit analysis, preliminary design work for each expansion scenario to enable the selection of the best option and other design work as required for completing the prefeasibility study. This position will be required through the study phases, implementation and will transition to support the expansions as the project completes.
Purpose:
- Identify and develop design criteria and cost estimates for process expansion options
- Determine the most appropriate technology for the expansion options
- Coordinate design work with mine engineers, mechanical engineers and outside engineering firms to produce a cost estimate of -15%/+25% accuracy for each expansion option
- Support calculation of NPV for each option based on expect recovery for each option
- Identify and proactively manage risks to completion of the prefeasibility study as well as risks to the successful completion of the site expansion
- Develop/refine a computer model which can be used to compare and evaluate changing technical and financial parameters
- Provide technical support for other areas of the project team
- Communicate results of work with others inside and outside the team
- Identify and specify equipment needed for each expansion option
- Complete sensitivity analysis on assumptions used for each expansion option
- Design and cost high level installation plan which will minimize disruption and loss to legacy plant
- Develop block process diagrams for each option with expected flow rate, density, etc.
- Identify key control parameters for plant operation and determine requirements to enable operations to correct upset conditions.
- Work with Mechanical engineer and Reliability group to identify redundancy and/or run times for equipment to ensure a reliable operation
Accountabilities:
- Design process equipment for each expansion option including sufficient detail to enable a cost estimate to be completed with an accuracy of -15%/+25%.
- Coordinate work with pilot plant to determine ability to leverage new technology in the design of the expansion.
- Document and track options assessed and outcome of each assessment to provide a detailed chronology of decision process to reach best option for expansion.
- Build and maintain a process model to allow for comparison of various options and assumptions.
College/University Education:
- Bachelor's (required) but an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant engineering discipline such as Chemical, Metallurgical or Mineral Processing is preferred.
Other Qualifications:
- 5 to 10 years of relevant experience. Experience in the mineral industry is required.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Professional Engineer license is a plus.
