Department Introduction - Product Validation Engineering Aerodynamic test group is responsible for aerodynamic, water soiling, and wind noise development and testing of all components and vehicles, using the DTNA full scale wind tunnel, scale model testing and working with the CFD group. We interface with all departments in the company, with suppliers and with customers. Job Functions - Develop prototype aerodynamic test parts using typical automotive techniques such as clay modeling, fiberglass, metal forming, metal fabrication, and wood working. Assist test engineers in performing full scale aerodynamic testing. Create and install prototype test parts, operate wind tunnel test systems. Participate in development meetings. Assist test engineers in performing scale model aerodynamic testing. Assist with model development including substrate construction, clay model construction, and clay shape changes during testing. Participate in development meetings. Maintain wind tunnel test equipment. Ensure test balance is in good operating condition and repair as necessary. Maintain all wind tunnel machine shop and fabrication equipment. Basic Qualifications - 3 years experience; OR an Associates degree: OR Bachelors degree (or higher) in lieu of experience is required. The Engineering Aerodynamic Test group within our Product Validation Engineering department is seeking an ambitious, authentic, goal oriented individual that is able to work under pressure. This individual will have a convincing personality capable of working in teams and be both committed and passionate about commercial vehicles. We are ready to add a team player with a resilient and positive attitude with a great eye for detail. This position may require some travel and at times this can occur with short notice. Experience identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems is required. Understanding of engineering processes and downstream impacts is required. Vehicle familiarity and testing experience is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with other engineering groups at Daimler are essential. Automotive auto body experience is required. Metal, fiberglass and wood fabrication experience is required. Knowledge of heavy-duty vehicles preferred. Heavy-duty truck test experience preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs is preferred. A commercial driver's license (CDL) is an asset.
