Senior ESH Engineer / CP8082 Job in Hoosick Falls 12090, New York US
Position Description:
Job Goals:
Under the general direction of the Site Operations Manager and PPL WW EHS manager, the EHS Site Coordinator is responsible for coordinating environmental, health and safety activities for the Hoosick Falls location. This position is responsible for promoting Saint-Gobain EHS policies and for ensuring compliance with all pertinent regulations that apply to the site. The position has one direct report.
Education, Skills and Requirements:
Work Experience:
Five or more years experience in a manufacturing environment with a proven track record of success in reducing occupational injuries and maintaining compliance with pertinent regulations
Excellent communication skills, oral and written
Proven ability to design, manage, and implement projects of a technical nature
Able to operate both independently and as a team member or leader
Demonstrated research and problem solving skills
Must be computer literate
ISO 14001 standards and compliance to requirements
Education Requirements:
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in an environmental discipline, safety science or similar
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes the following; other duties may be assigned):
• Researches, translates, and communicates governmental regulations in matters related to environment, health and safety issues
• Responsible for managing the site Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard
• Creates and audits environmental, health and safety policies and practices for the site
• Coordinates communications between the site and regulatory agencies as related to EHS matters
• Ensures compliance with governmental and SG and PPL EHS requirements
• Coordinates and / or conducts training for facility personnel as it concerns EHS matters
• Manages local EHS department activities to ensure that objectives are met
• Becomes PPL expert in one functional EHS area as determined by PPL WW EHS manager.
• Example could include best practices related to flammable liquids safety for film coating operations. In this case, a Safety Standard would be created and training held for locations with similar risks
• Cultivates relationships with regulatory agencies to facilitate open communication (NYDEC, NYDOH) on matters of importance to the site.
• Performs all aspects of position at highest ethical and moral levels
• Participates in self-development activities and training of others
• Exhibits an awareness of EHS impacts on the Hoosick Falls business
• Performs other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business
• Exhibits model behavior as related to EHS policies and practices
• Participates in the No. American 20 assessment program as an auditor
Examples of EHS Activities:
• Coordinates safety committee activities (schedule meetings, sub-committee assignments, meeting minutes, ensure follow-up)
• Develops annual EHS action plan and annual facility training plan
• Updates existing site policies and writes new ones as required (as it concerns the environment, safety and health related programs) .
• Acts as member of the local management team and provides advice and direction as it concerns EHS impacts to the site.
• Ensures that a system is in place for reporting and investigating TF incidents.
• Completes various internal reporting requirements, e.g., Toriman, annual GAIA indicators and others as required.
• Ensures that the PPL Management of Change program is followed
• Coordinates site level behavior based safety program
• Coordinates Industrial Hygiene surveys as needed
• Responds to employee complaints regarding EHS matters
• Implement corporate programs as directed, e.g. Working at heights, contractor safety, LOTO, hand protection
• Ensure facility permit conditions (air, water, etc.) are known and all requirements are met.
• Complete monthly reporting by third calendar day of each month, e.g., Call to Action, GAIA, etc.
The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas where the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and safety shoes is required. Also will have exposure to ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
