Position Description:

Sr. Facilities Engineer * Mechanical

Description:

*Facilities Engineer helps research, develop and manage technical and operational standards for all mission critical mechanical systems that support the IT support facilities. This position involves working across multi-disciplinary teams in help identify, evaluate and selecting data center technology standards that are designed meet targeted business and operational performance needs.
*The engineer assists the senior engineers in managing the critical IT datacenter facility mechanical systems, and may oversee contactors in the managing the operations of complex mission critical systems. This person is considered to be the Tier 1 escalation point for mechanical incidents; and helps resolve the problems using the change management process. The facilities engineer helps insure datacenter power, cooling, and fire suppression systems are maintained correctly for all IT raised floor areas in North America.
*The Facilities Engineer will be expected to remain current in industry knowledge and best practices through participation in engineering, codes and standards bodies such as NFPA, CEN, ASHRAE, ASME; and industry communities of practice and networking organizations such as AFCOM, Site Uptime Network, Data Center Dynamics, and 7X24 Exchange.
*Provide technical expertise and drive engineering solutions for one of the following areas: Industrial cooling and refrigeration systems; Commercial facility environmental systems; DDC and industrial PLC (process) controls; Thermal storage systems; Ground water systems; Co-generation; Pumps, piping, air-handling systems; Micro-electronic environments; Highly resilient mechanical systems
*Evaluate data from systems reports and develop key metrics to measure performance
*Determine operational parameters of systems and processes
*Oversee contractors in developing specifications and standards
*Help provide direction to engineering consultants in the evaluation or design of customer proposed installations
*Help develop data center commissioning standards framework, and be capable of overseeing field commissioning at the site level
*Assist in implementing of mechanical standards and operations guides
*Manage IT facility minor projects
*Implement energy related efficiencies
*Determine effective use of space
*Deploy *best in class* solutions that are: Technically sound; Able to meet service level requirements; Flexible enough to meet changing demands of the business; Cost effective; Maintain the proper refresh schedules for the elements of the IT Facilities infrastructure; Identify and/or support the identification of IT strategies and applications that augment or support the business strategy; Assist others in solving complex or abstract business or system problems
*Develop solutions to meet the balanced objectives of Reliability, Cost and Capacity management
*Drive technical excellence, consistency and process maturity across all mechanical environments
*Implement continuous improvement in engineering practices

Qualifications:

*3+ years of directly related IT work experience, with strong infrastructure IT Facilities background
*Must possess knowledge of technology industry
*Background in mechanical engineering, design, construction and commissioning for mission critical facilities
