The Senior Financial / Cost Analyst role is the primary Financial Planning Analysis person for Thermo Fisher Scientific’s $100M+ Gas Chromatography/Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry (GC/GCMS) global business. This role will own reporting and analysis of GC/GCMS revenue, including analysis with comparative data and organic growth calculations; and strong participation in sales and operations planning process to drive improvement and accuracy in the Revenue forecasting process. The person in this role will also be a business partner to Sourcing and RD for GC/GCMS in analyzing, forecasting and proactively reporting and managing purchase spending on a monthly and quarterly basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Timely and accurate reporting of weekly, monthly, quarterly inputs to various systems – HFM, SIOP – and data extractions from SAP
• Analysis of GC gross margin in preparation for monthly quarterly reporting
• Preparation of monthly, quarterly financial forecasts of RD and sourcing spend and revenue
• Timely preparation of elements of the Monthly and Quarterly Business Review, and other ad hoc presentations, reviews and analyses as needed by General Manager, Functional Business Leaders or Finance Director
• Responsible for material cost variance analysis, product cost roll and other key OCOS variance analysis; periodic audits of WIP inventory and cycle count inventory results
• Meets accounting financial standards by assisting in the monthly review of budget to actual information; monitoring expenditures; identifying variances and corrective actions
• Assist in month-end closing activities, including departmental expenses, overhead allocations, and various analysis of the cost of goods sold accounts
• Preparation of internal and external reporting packages, taking advantage of opportunities to enhance efficiency
• Assist in management of both internal and external audits
• Perform special projects and ad-hoc reporting as required
• Other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Specific Scope Data
• Responsible for data input to HFM, SIOP, ledger adjustments and journal entries into SAP
• Analysis of variance accounts, gross margin and budget to actual
• Preparation of some elements of financial forecasting, MBR, QBR and other ad hoc reporting
• Responsible for Austin site product costing and OCOS variance analysis
• Assist in site audits, both inventory, SOX and financial
• Meeting deadlines for monthly and quarterly close process
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required, majors in Accounting, Finance, or Economics plus eight or more years of accounting and finance experience required. CPA preferred
• Experience with cost variance analysis and annual planning process for multiple entities
• Proven track record to meet deadlines, handle multiple priorities, and work well under pressure
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions
• ERP experience required; SAP experience strongly preferred; Hyperion and advanced Excel required (v lookup, Pivot Tables, macros)
• Strong grasp of GAAP and Internal Control
• Self motivated; high bias for action and timely project completion
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
