(Senior) Financial Risk Manager
Primary mission
Support the investment decision processes throughout the AXA Group and especially at Group level. Strengthen the sum of local, regional and global financial risks teams regarding their role in the investment decision making process. Identify potential financial risks emerging and not yet on the radar screen.
Core activities
The activities are linked to the management of the "investment approval process” (IAP), a process required by an AXA Standard and rolled out at global, regional and local level where investment decisions are made. The IAP ensures a diligent review of new (non-plain-vanilla) investment proposals by investment-, risk- and accounting teams (as well as legal, tax) and provides a 1 and a 2 opinion to the decision maker. The job holder champions the risk management role within the IAP.
The main activities are:
- Ensuring timely and quality production of 2 opinion for investment approved at Group level. Coordination of activities with local risk teams until investment implementation.
- Developing, managing and maintaining a network of professionals throughout the Group which contributes (on a case by case basis) their expertise to IAP processes.
- Managing the information flow from and to local entities. Monitoring local investment approval processes and reviewing, coaching and evaluating local risk teams regarding their 2 opinion role.
Additional activities include a primary relationship with some operating units
- Follow-up of local investment committees
- Participate in the definition of adequate risk capital charges for new assets
- Provide opinions on asset eligibility frameworks or investment mandates.
- Support the monitoring of past investments.
- Monitor local ALM/Investment committee; ensure that decisions taken and the risk exposure are coherent with the guidelines defined by the Group,
- Support the « best practices » implementation among units.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Technical skills:
- Deep knowledge of financial markets and financial instruments (especially alternative assets and assets in the credit universe); CFA or comparable qualification highly appreciated
- Knowledge of insurance business, especially ALM constraints (Life and Savings),
- Knowledge of Solvency2, and of IFRS.
Soft skills and competencies:
- Strong leadership skills, ability to build the vision
- Strong people skills (share to succeed)
- Strong organization skills,
- Strong communication skills (oral and in writing), especially to senior management
- Ability to work under pressure, in flexible environment
- Ability to work in an intercultural environment
Management skills:
- Management of a network of experts on voluntary basis and of local FRM teams without a formal reporting line
- Management of conflicts
- Ability to influence.
Experience:
- 10 years of relevant experience, with exposure to:
- Financial risk management, capital markets, asset management, investment counseling, asset liability management, alternative assets, Solvency 2/ Basel 3, investment accounting
- Fluent English is essential (all meeting, notes, presentation in English).
