Senior Fixed Asset Accountant Job in Houston 77002, Texas Us

 

Basic Function:

This position will oversee and perform all fixed asset accounting functions for two salt dome storage facilities. In addition, this role will support the month end close process and financial reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Fixed Asset Accounting

Responsible for placing all new fixed assets into service within the accounting system

o Communicate with the project team and field operations to determine appropriate break out of assets based on useful life, FERC codes and tax requirements

o Review and validate depreciation calculations

o Manage master asset listing

Set up new projects and funding within PeopleSoft

Maintain master account coding plan and train team members as needed

Review account coding on requisitions to ensure coding is sufficient for asset management

Monitor all capital project expenditures

o Track actual costs against budget and authorized funding amounts

o Validate account coding on all transactions

o Validate interest, allocations and labor charges

Prepare monthly financial package for project team, field operations and senior management

Reconcile property, plant equipment balance sheet accounts

Stay abreast of asset retirements and retire assets from asset management as needed

General Ledger Accounting

Analyze and book monthly revenue and expense journals

Reconcile operating margins

Review monthly financial results and explain budget variances

Assist with annual budget preparation

Assist with regulatory reporting

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

5-7 years accounting experience in the energy industry

Fixed asset accounting experience

Skills:

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

Working experience with Peoplesoft

Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing

Organized and able to handle multiple priorities

Attention to detail and ability to see the bigger picture

Strong self initiative
