Why does the job exist?
There is a current opening for the right person to create and manage the geotechnical function at this globally significant mining operation from its beginnings. Needed is a strong technical approach to manage the site's Ground Control Management Plan and to ensure that any ground control safety issues are managed using appropriate monitoring tools.
The role will also be an influential member of the technical services team and will assist in the establishment of a values based site culture. Additionally, the role will be responsible for providing input to the mine planning and the design teams to help achieve high standards of safe production.

What skills and experience do you need?
Key attributes that will contribute to your success include strong interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to build positive working relationships at all levels both internal and external to the operations. You'll have good organisational skills, commitment to continuous improvement and a sound understanding of appropriate practices and techniques. Your role will include sourcing new and alternate ideas and concepts to improve the business, assisting in the development of strategic management plans, liaising with the operational team to implement systems and the analysis of observations and findings. You will play an important role in managing and reviewing of ground control incidents and you will participate in audits and compliance checks.
As the ideal candidate, you will possess a minimum of 5 years experience and practical knowledge in operational mining as a Geotechnical Engineer. Your experience will include the ability to write, review and execute GCMP and instructions, the management of slope stability performance and the validation of slope design criteria.
